These are the days I live for as a mom! Early morning Waffle House breakfast in Nashville with these amazing young ladies before they head into their Sub-State game tonight! What a privilege to listen to their laughter, and see their smiling faces! I’m soaking up every minute I have left of this exhausting, challenging, grueling, wonderful, chaotic, fulfilling, joyful season of parenthood! So proud of the Lady Eagles for a great finish of runner up in the District Tournament! They move on to Regionals Thursday night! This team is full of grit and grace and they’ve played their hearts out this year! Even more special is watching these two girls grow into not only amazing athletes but young women who live for Christ! Kendyl and Jaidyn, your friendship is one of my favorite things! And @allie.s44 I can’t begin to thank you for the friend and mentor you’ve been to Kendyl this year! We love you and we are so proud of all you have accomplished! Dirk Allen.

I miss you so much…especially in this season of life we’re in right now. You would absolutely love these grandbabies, and I know you’d be so incredibly proud of the kids. They are just like you…Never afraid of breaking the rules, coloring outside the lines, or doing things your own way. We miss you more than you will ever know.

The other day, Rylie thanked me for never trying to make them angry with you or teaching them to dislike you. She told me that all she ever heard me say was how amazing you were.

And she was right.

Because you were amazing. You could literally light up the room with one single chord, whether on a guitar or piano. And when you sang, everyone stopped to listen.

You fought demons, just like the rest of us. You made mistakes. You carried your own battles. But none of that changed the way we loved you or the way you loved us.

There will never be another you.

You were full of piss and vinegar—equal parts order and chaos, laughter and joy, sadness and heartbreak, and more love than most people ever knew how to hold.

You were the best of all of us.

You left a mark on all of us that time will never erase. And even after all these years, there are still moments when I find myself thinking, You should be here.

We missed you then.
We miss you now.
And I imagine we’ll miss you for the rest of our lives.

I hope you’re up there making a BIG ruckus in Heaven today…because if Heaven has even a little bit of room for your kind of chaos, I know you’ve found it. 😂🧡

Until we see you again…we’ll keep telling the stories, loving the people you left behind, and making sure your kids never forget just how amazing you were.

I sure would love to be driving across the mountain today with you and @darladbabb to celebrate your birthday! We would no doubt play the slots, maybe play a little bit of blackjack, eat really good and laugh til we cried.
