Rita Bliss is a Austin–based singer-songwriter whose music blends Americana, folk, country, and rock into a sound that is both deeply personal and undeniably powerful. With soulful vocals, thoughtful songwriting, and an unmistakable emotional honesty, Rita creates songs that explore love, resilience, identity, and hope with remarkable grace. Her artistry is timeless while still feeling fresh, making every performance and recording resonate long after the music ends.

It was such an honor to showcase Rita on a recent Queer/BIPOC Honky Tonk segment. Her music has a sincerity and warmth that immediately connected with me, and I was thrilled to share it with the QBHT audience. I’m also incredibly grateful that Rita not only lent her voice to narrate one of my My Calico Quilt essays, but generously allowed me to use her beautiful song “You Can Go” as its soundtrack. That combination of extraordinary artistry and genuine generosity is something I’ll always treasure, and I’m thankful our paths have crossed in such meaningful ways.

My Calico Quilt, Cross-Stitched by Acts of Kindness: Nate Sawyer.

Nate Sawyer is a Bay Area singer-songwriter whose music blends country, folk, and Americana with heartfelt storytelling and an easygoing authenticity. His songs draw from everyday experiences, pairing memorable melodies with honest lyrics that feel both personal and universally relatable. Whether delivering an intimate ballad or an upbeat roots tune, Nate’s warm voice and genuine approach make his music instantly inviting.

It was such an honor to showcase Nate on a recent Queer/BIPOC Honky Tonk segment. From the first time I heard his music, I knew it was something I wanted to share with others. Featuring his work through QBHT was incredibly rewarding, and I loved having the opportunity to introduce more listeners to an artist whose songwriting is as sincere as it is compelling. I hope the segment inspired people to dive deeper into Nate’s catalog, because his music deserves to find its way to as many ears as possible.

Her expressive voice and thoughtful songwriting create music that feels both timeless and deeply personal, offering listeners stories that linger long after the final note.

I’m incredibly excited to showcase Leila on a future Queer/BIPOC Honky Tonk segment. She represents exactly the kind of artist I love celebrating—someone whose music honors the traditions of country and Americana while bringing a unique voice and lived experience to the conversation. My Calico Quilt, Cross-Stitched by Acts of Kindness: Regina Strayhorn.

Regina Strayhorn is a New York City–based singer-songwriter, cellist, and one-third of the acclaimed trio Bandits on the Run. Blending folk, Americana, theatrical storytelling, and chamber-pop influences, the group has become known for its inventive songwriting, rich harmonies, and captivating live performances. Regina’s expressive cello playing and unmistakably soulful voice are at the heart of the band’s sound, bringing warmth, elegance, and emotional depth to every song.

I was beyond honored to feature Bandits on the Run on a previous Queer/BIPOC Honky Tonk segment. Regina’s voice has an almost magical quality; effortlessly expressive, endlessly captivating, and capable of drawing you into every lyric she sings. Combined with the trio’s wonderfully imaginative style, their music feels like stepping into an entirely different world. Sharing their artistry through QBHT was an absolute joy, and I hope the feature helped more people discover a group whose creativity, musicianship, and heart are truly one of a kind.
