Some places aren’t destinations… they’re discoveries.

On our way to Lubec last week, we took a road we’d never traveled before.

Around one bend, this quiet Maine lake appeared. I quickly snapped these photos through the van window before each view slipped away.

Only in Lubec… where even the pants tell a fishing story. 🐟⚓️💙

Sometimes all it takes is a pair of fish pants to start a conversation. 🐟😂 By the end, we were sharing a laugh and taking a group photo. That’s one of the things I love most about Lubec. 💙📸

Some places don’t ask anything of you—they simply invite you to slow down.

@radiolubec and I arrived in Lubec around 7:00 p.m. to sunshine, 65°F, and water shimmering in the evening light (second photo).

Just a few hours later, the sky traded bright blues for soft pinks and lavenders, and the day quietly slipped into evening.

It was the perfect welcome home to Lubec. 💙

My good friend @wherenextkathy knew about Edinburgh’s Love Locks and thought I’d love them. She knew I’d appreciate not only the colorful photography opportunities, but also the history behind the tradition. She was absolutely right. ❤️

At the time, I was captivated by the colors, textures, and creativity of the locks. It wasn’t until later that I learned the full meaning behind the tradition.

Traditionally, couples attach a lock engraved with their names or a special date, then throw away the key as a symbol of a bond meant to last forever.

Ironically, this hidden gem was literally outside our hotel, yet I walked right past it until @radiolubec showed me exactly where it was.

Looking back, one of the greatest gifts of our European adventure wasn’t just the places we visited—it was the people we shared them with. ❤️

St. Giles Cathedral surprised me twice when we were there in June.

The first time was when @radiolubec and I arrived in Edinburgh.

It stood only about 100 paces from our hotel, becoming the very first landmark to welcome us to the city.

The second surprise came after dinner at The Witchery.

As we walked back toward the hotel, the cathedral suddenly began glowing… changing from emerald green to sapphire blue, then brilliant pink and deep crimson against the Scottish twilight. For a few magical moments, I forgot I was walking back to the hotel. 😂

I couldn’t stop photographing it.

I was fascinated by it’s history -

St. Giles Cathedral has stood at the heart of Edinburgh’s Royal Mile for almost 900 years, with the present Gothic building dating largely from the 14th century.

It is affectionately known as the “High Kirk of Edinburgh” and played a central role in the Scottish Reformation under John Knox, making it one of Scotland’s most historically significant churches.

Its unmistakable crown steeple, completed in the late 1400s, has become one of Edinburgh’s defining landmarks and is instantly recognizable on the city’s skyline.

One last surprise before we left….I looked out the window yesterday morning to find Pope’s Folly Island wrapped in a blanket of fog.

The island was once home to a smuggler and the center of a long-running U.S.–Canada border dispute, but today it simply looked peaceful… and a little mysterious.

Some mornings, Maine tells its own story 💙🌫️
