Suspended in overwhelm and gratitude.

When I began creating this new work, LAY HIM QUIETLY, I knew I wanted to integrate film and music. I came across an old YouTube video of “Dirty Windshield” by my dear friend Ane Brun, and immediately fell in love with it. The song resonated so strongly with what I felt this piece needed to express.

I asked Ane if she would be willing to re-record it acappella, and I’m so grateful she trusted me with her art and shared it so generously with this work.

I also knew I wanted to collaborate again with Lucas Wallenberg, an incredible filmmaker I’ve been lucky to work with before, who helped bring this vision to life. Here you get a glimpse of these two components coming together.

And to my entire team, Ivo who composed a 40 min heartbreaking score, Anh who created stunning costumes and set, Linn magician behind lights, and of course Ninos for the beautiful dancing, as well as all the presenters and the technical crew at Östgötateatern, thank you, thank you, thank you. This work exists because of all of you.

Demystifying this visual so you can do it too:

For this particular scene we used 4 people and if you look closely you can see a hand or two on the edges of the fabric pulling and twisting. We also used C-stand, to manipulate and suspend fabric around the talent, we had a concept of
”unleashing your potential” that we wanted to explore but me and @iamennaiaa had no idea that @lujainthegreat would interpret the emotional queues:

”think about the feeling of knowing your power and potential and feeling unheard, then stepping into it”

like it was her god given birth right.

Closing this project I wanna thank everyone who gave us their time energy and trust to help us manifest this beautiful shot, this type of project is all about teamwork and collaboration and when the team is teaming, it translates directly into the frame. by @lucas_wallenberg
