The ready-to-start hardscape in the 3N! I decided on a classic NA layout. It consists of a single driftwood root and lava rocks. The entire hardscape was glued together into a single piece (my favorite method).

Soil was used in the background, and the light-colored sand in the foreground is meant to create a contrast with the dark hardscape.

But before I set up this tank, I’d like to rescape the 5S first.

Here is the 3N, the little buddy of the 5N. I like the setup with these two tanks next to each other.

Now I am preparing the hardscape for the 3N, then I can go for a dark-start.

The Hygrophila pinnatifida got a big trim! That plant might become one of my favorite aquatic plants! It grows quickly, is very versatile, has a unique appearance, and develops a truly beautiful color under the right conditions.

The UNS 5S is finally fully planted. The scape was designed to require as little maintenance as possible: stem plants in the background that will eventually outgrow the area, and many slow-growing epiphytes growing on the roots.

I haven’t been using any fertilizer so far, and I don’t plan on adding CO2 either. A few days ago I added some botanicals for the shrimps.

OLD HARDSCAPE - NEW LAYOUT.

I often find myself at the point where I need to modify existing aquascapes, though not always in a radical way. It’s more like a “soft reboot.” And that’s exactly how I approached it this time. The old roots were reattached. I really like the new asymmetrical layout.

It’s been a while since I had a shallow tank. The desire to set up again has grown stronger and stronger over the last few weeks, which is why I’ve built a new 5S setup.

Because of the small amount of water volume and big amount of wood, I will do a dark-start for the next weeks.

Happy New Year 🎊

I found a shot before I moved the 5N to it’s new place. The aquarium should have been running for about 4 weeks at this point.

I have to admit: the Microsorum pteropus ‚Taiwan Narrow‘ was at its most beautiful at that point! Unfortunately, the leaves became much too wide for this little tank, which is why it sadly had to go.

Oh, and CO2 was also being added at this time. Now it’s running without CO2, and since then the plants have been growing much more slowly. Maintenance is very easy these days.
