Natural resource management doesn’t come with an instruction manual.❌📖 The Resource Exchange is an initiative by RESOLVE, an NGO that forges sustainable solutions to critical social, health, and environmental challenges by creating innovative partnerships where they are least likely and most needed. The initiative seeks to build a network that connects community members to the tools, information, funding, expertise, and people they need to drive for better, community-led natural resource management. Last August, I was brought in to design a logo and brand identity for The Resource Exchange that would fit within the existing visual language of the RESOLVE house of brands. The winning logo direction, dubbed “Venn Dialogue” consists of four intertwined speech bubbles to create a flower, each bubble representing the four pillars of the initiative. The brand identity features a graphic device forged by reversing the stroked shape of the logo icon to create a network of solid shapes. I might get some flack for this but…👀 Logos actually aren’t THAT important. Including this little snapshot of logos I’ve designed for clients over the years. Think about it this way: Your logo is your brand’s first impression. It sets expectations for the experiences your brand delivers. While you only have one chance at a first impression, you have many chances to deliver high-quality brand experiences. You might have an incredible product that grows a cult following, or a customer experience so seamless that your customers come away feeling supported and heard. That’s why I always advocate for a full brand identity package over a one-off logo project. Branding is about the long game, delivering on promises and memorable experiences consistently over time. Having a robust, streamlined brand identity system helps make that achievement easier and more sustainable. As one partner put it, “I feel our brand is like a plane trapped in turbulence, but we’ve never truly broken through the clouds.” By blending art and science, my former teammates at Agenda and I developed a new brand story and visual identity to help them stand out and soar. The new logo by @davidmarte2 and accompanying brand system I developed are inspired by the qualities of a sleek supersonic jet, symbolizing how GHSMART propels leaders laser-focused power toward sky-high results. The identity also features a curated photography art direction that I call “The View from the Top,” representing the high caliber of talent ghSMART evaluates and selects for their clients.
