I’m absolutely delighted to be part of @offbeatfilm’s art exhibition this year at @staffordshirest. Can’t wait to see the baskets sitting amongst the other pieces in the show, created by over 80 artists ā€œwhose work sits somewhere around the edges of folk, outsider and vernacular traditions.ā€ That’s me!
PV this Thursday! Then the show runs until 17th. Let me know if you want to visit and I’ll come with you 🧔 by @lucie_ellen

A month of sun days šŸŒ…
An attempt to escape this wet January day (which is actually quite glorious in its own way) harking back to the sun rising and setting on Chios. That peachy pink light on your skin 10 seconds after waking, the best way to start the day. It feels like a distant memory but HEY we gain 54 minutes of sunlight this month, now there’s something to be hopeful about 🧔 taken in Chios, Greece by @lucie_ellen

2025, The Year Of Light. Of vegetables and animals, sunrises and big skies. 12 years in one, each month an epic. Feeling strong and adventurous and making it all count. Getting to know this independent new person, getting to like her. Wanting to care for her and make her want to stick around. Resilience and softness hand in hand. Grief as an ever changing and constant fixture, and the realisation that this will always be the way. A seemingly unending bout of heartbreak, yet still the capacity for love. Enough tears to fill a lake, enough laughter to fill a book. Learning to write my story and delighting in reading it back. This year my matter has shifted, I feel almost entirely new. This is the hardest work I’ve ever done, and the proudest I’ve ever been. I feel so protective of this new person, my mission for 2026 is to keep her safe.

I’ve written a longer piece that follows this, it’s on my substack if you fancy a quick NYE read x by @lucie_ellen

If it gets dark at 5 and everything’s closed and there’s no one around but there’s a pine tree outside there’s nothing for it but to start a new hobby.
Anxiety has been pretty fierce this week (Fun fact! You can be on a Greek island and still feel like shit sometimes!) and making these little baskets has been the most marvellous mindful medicine. A reminder to make things for the pure joy of making, and not be too worried about what comes out (though I am delighted with what’s come out). taken in Greece by @lucie_ellen

What Have You Been Eating?
A story about the food I’ve eaten here, and more. I’d love it if you read it. Eggs feature highly, obviously. Link in bio to my Substack.

I stop to take photos of almost every window I see, varying combinations of stone frame, wooden shutters, ornate metal grating, net curtains, sometimes a plant. Occasionally I’m reflected back at myself and I like seeing myself here, in this landscape. I keep wandering, a dog runs over. He’s beautiful, exactly the kind I would like when I eventually have one. A sandy coat and soft brown eyes, short stocky legs. I stop and fuss him for a while, his tail wags, tongue lols, eyes bright looking up at me lovingly. My heart swells. I knew this would happen.

🐶 This is an excerpt from a longer story called Nick, which you can find on MY SUBSTACK because I have one of those now. Link in bio, let’s goooooo! taken in Greece by @lucie_ellen

Last week I went on a walk to I wasn’t quite sure where. I’d seen a museum on the map and set off there, fairly sure it would be closed as it’s November. The walk took me through tiny lanes lined with terracotta coloured sandstone buildings, painted shutters, high walls, old feeling but not ancient. Swish hotels closed up for the season. Olive and citrus groves, the smell of woodsmoke, the buzz of the harvest. I smiled the whole way, delighted with what I was seeing, with what I was doing. Nick Drake in one ear, google maps in the other. Smiling Greek men in rusty pick up trucks waved and shouted, kalimera! Textures so dense in the November light, my camera lens gobbled them all. The museum was open, so was its cafe. A place so perfect I couldn’t believe it, exactly what you’d want, exactly what I needed, the pleasure in it being there and its very openness bubbled. It feels significant, this finding of my third space (apartment one, beach two). I think I’ve turned a corner. by @lucie_ellen

First week on an island in the Aegean. My god, my first few days here were tough. If there had been a button I could push that would’ve got me home with a full refund, I would’ve pushed it, would’ve punched it. A realisation that this is, perhaps, is a rather extreme thing to do, being on a small Greek island, on my own, in off season, for a MONTH. A week in and I’m glad I didn’t leave, of course of course. The discomfort is still there, but that’s so much of what this is about, learning to sit with myself and face things, for the first time ever really. Of course I’m having a gorgeous time sploshing in the water, reading books, napping and eating and I couldn’t be more grateful for that, but in the back of it all, there’s me and my stuff and we’re finally having it out. The support from my pals on here has been invaluable this past week, I thank each and every one of you x taken in Greece by @lucie_ellen
