Eyjafjörður in northern Iceland is home to remarkable hydrothermal vent systems, including a newly discovered vent field that remains largely unexplored and has yet to be studied. These vents might hold clues to how life first emerged on Earth.

Supported by a National Geographic Meridian grant, Explorers Skylar Tibbits, Dr. Jeff Marlow, and Dr. Jessica Todd are beginning an expedition to map and study the life around these vents with support from local experts and collaborators Erlendur Bogason and Geir Borg.

Last week the field work officially began! 🌋🌊 Our team did their first set of dives to start sampling. Next up: underwater mapping.

solar eclipse bts

@moreno.spice and I drove through bumpy off roads to find this body of water I’d seen on the map’s satellite view (on standard view it just showed a stream). I wanted to try and capture the sun’s corona reflecting back in the water below

unexpectedly caught the A3-Tsuchinshan comet in the Spanish Pyrenees after 2 unsuccessful u.s. attempts

the next time this comet will be visible from earth is in about 80,000 years!
