Carolina spent years dreaming up @luckyflock before she moved into an apartment that was able to accommodate the coop and backyard space. Now she provides fresh, organic eggs to Ridgewood residents and offers educational workshops for people and community gardens that are interested in raising chickens. Her flock is made up of the sweetest, friendliest hens that spend their days grazing and enjoying cuddles from Carolina. Grab your fresh eggs at the @ridgewoodpopupmarket (which Carolina also runs)! 🎶: @cb_sonics

The GreenThumb GrowTogether conference is less than a month away! There will be many amazing workshops including this one:
Keeping chickens add many benefits to our community gardens, but they also require special care and many considerations, In this workshop we will learn the basics of keeping a flock of chicken, including how to know if chickens are right for you comunity garden, how to care for chicks, how to shelter chickens, what to feed to chickens, common problems you might face and much more. This workshop will be conducted by Carolina, a Colombian Urban farmer located in Ridgewood, Queens NY. she currently lives with her partner, their 3 cats, a flock of 6 chicken (plans to expand the flock to 9 chicken), maaaany indoor plants and a backyard veggie garden. In her spare time she cooks vegetarian Colombian dishes with vegetables from her urban farm.

Lap chickens are the best! Marina can be quite persistent when she wants to be held and snuggled. Giving little pecks until she is heard! by @luckyflock

I love these chickens so much! But … they can be a handful when it comes to the garden. Many times over the years they would outsmart us and get into the veggie beds, no matter how well we protect them, destroying all the hard work of growing the plants from seed! So we had to adjust and started building these “veggie jails” that are chicken proof. Hopefully this summer we can finish these project in our urban farm. by @luckyflock

Happy 5th bday Mony and Siggy! These two really show how best friends can be total opposites! Mony is the alpha bossy leader of the flock, loud as only she can be, always making sure to alerts us if something it’s not right in their backyard or within the flock, and also making sure to vocalize her needs for snacks and treats! (I give her many talks about being less loud to respect our neighbors, sometimes she listens most times she doesn’t) While Siggy it’s the quiet, gentle, shy and sweet of the pair. The two of them are always side by side in sickness, in joyful moments of worms and bugs findings or dirty puddle drinking or at the many chicken activities they have daily. We love these two so so much! Cheers For many many more! by @luckyflock
