Some snippets from a newly published essay I wrote about hoarding, disorder, meaning, and writing my second book of poems, Foretokens. Thanks very much to @nick.makoha and @writersmosaic for encouraging me to write this and then giving it a home, amidst some really interesting pieces by fellow poets writing about their experiences of the @tseliotprize. Is what poets do work? The poet Durs Grünbein has said that one of the most common questions asked at poetry events is whether he can make a living from his writing. As Sarah Howe and @Parmarsandeepk explore in this episode from ‘Poetry and the Turning World’, the idea of poetry as either work or play, or neither, is important both for its cultural identity and the ways it is written.
