POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
I’m proud to say I did it—I graduated. There was never a doubt in my mind that I wouldn’t make it here, but if you had asked me during freshman year, there was a time when just showing up felt like the biggest burden in the world. I hated being at school.
My grades slipped—not below a C, but I wasn’t trying. I didn’t see the point. I felt stuck and unmotivated. But junior year hit, and I realized it was time to stop slacking and figure things out. I brought my GPA up and finished high school with a 3.57, ranking 35th out of 102 students in my class. I also earned 23 college credit hours before even setting foot on a college campus.
I started out in math lab as a freshman, and by junior and senior year, I was doubling up on math classes and had taken every math course Holden High School had to offer—except the second half of Math for Everyday. I even joined the Math Relays team.
Reading was no different. I used to think it was the worst thing in the world. I walked into senior year dreading my Modern Lit class. But something changed. I picked up The Martian, and before I knew it, I was looking forward to the next chapter.
I’ve changed so much since freshman year, and while there are a lot of people I could thank for helping me grow, I’m especially grateful to myself. I could’ve taken shortcuts. I could’ve given up. But I didn’t.
a crazy moment that I had was noticing when I was little I could watch my dad know everything and he always knew how to help me and my sister in school and I remember being amazed how smart my dad was. But the day I showed him a math paper and he had no idea what he was looking at, I realized something important: I have a real shot at being just as successful as he is. by @lucydungan
