Every dairy cow is a mother first. To produce milk, she must first give birth—a natural, beautiful process that is instead weaponized against her. 🐮🤱🏼

From a feminist perspective, true liberation cannot coexist with the exploitation of female bodies. In the dairy industry, mother cows face forced artificial insemination, repeated pregnancies, and the traumatic removal of their babies shortly after birth—all so her milk can be sold for human consumption. Her reproductive autonomy is entirely stripped away for profit. 💵

And what happens to the babies?

As you see in this video, male calves are viewed as nothing more than useless "byproducts" of the dairy cycle. Because they can’t produce milk, their fate is cruel and immediate: either left to die from neglect or sold off to be slaughtered as veal within weeks or months of life.

Suffering knows no gender, but the dairy industry targets both: exploiting the female reproductive cycle and discarding the male offspring created by it.

Milk isn't just an animal rights issue—it’s a feminist issue. ✊🩷

Choosing plant-based isn't just a diet; it's an act of solidarity with every mother whose body was never meant to be a commodity. 🌾💔

Did you know 80% of the eggs Sobeys sells still come from caged hens!? @sobeys @safewaycanada
promised to go 100% cage-free but have made no progress in five years...

Yesterday I joined @animaljustice_ in protest at Sobeys in Toronto at Make Cages History — Protest at Sobeys + Brave the Cage Challenge 🐔 Hosted by Animal Justice. To highlight the cruel conditions hens face, passersby were invited to spend five minutes inside a cramped cage, experiencing a small part of the hens' daily reality.

The world can be a crazy place, but I am truly blessed to have you as my dad. You constantly showed up for me when I needed someone. You never stopped reminding me that you love me. You always made the effort to be in my life, support me, and help me even when it was hard. I know you would be proud of me and the person I am still today. You were a great friend and father to me. Life wasn’t easy for us but you made it seem so for me. I’m not sure anyone could understand just how much I miss you or my grieving.

I felt lost without you, unsafe. I still can’t believe I travelled all those years ago now to Italy by myself to see your great grandfathers hometown who you loved so much. Maybe it was because I could feel your presence with me still and I didn’t feel alone.

I can’t help but celebrate you on your birthday every year even though you are not here physically anymore. You are still with me in my heart everyday & today you would be 64 🩵🧁 by @lucylooellis

During our 10th anniversary talk, founder Laura Warner shared how the journey evolved through creative storytelling, activist features, community support, and apparel design—proving that there are so many creative ways to advocate for animals through writing, painting, and what we wear.

Q&A Highlights:
Q: What are some of the main programs or areas the organization focuses on moving forward?
A: The foundation remains rooted in writing and digital spaces, expanding interview features to highlight different animal advocacy groups, sanctuaries, and brands, alongside ongoing shop expansions like circular, eco-friendly apparel (such as our new TeeMill storefront).

Q: Since art and creative expression are such a big part of what The Honest Whisper does, is including art a conscious choice?
A: Absolutely. Writing and fashion are powerful art forms, and advocacy can take many creative shapes—whether through painting, writing, or clothing choices that spark positive conversations.

Q: How can community members and supporters get more involved with upcoming initiatives, especially if they are looking to collaborate?
A: Supporters can get involved by submitting guest writing, requesting advocacy group features, or exploring custom t-shirts and activist apparel through the platform.

Celebrating the 10th anniversary of The Honest Whisper at the Wishbone AR Lab! 🖤🌱

The Honest Whisper @thehonestwhisper is a vegan lifestyle blog and nonprofit shop centred around compassion, ethical fashion, animal rights, and creating a kinder world for animals. I’m happy to support this initiative and grateful to be one of its collaborators. Please also support Ashlynn @artistic_allegories another incredible artist in the community.

A wonderful space for the celebration — a creative space that brings people together to share ideas, create, and explore different ways we can strengthen the animal rights movement.

I was also so happy to share some of my own artwork and creations that day. It felt especially meaningful to have my work showcased in a space surrounded by Philip McCulloch-Downs’ incredible artwork throughout the lab. Having the chance to see his pieces up close was incredibly inspiring and moving.

A huge thank you to Laura, the founder of The Honest Whisper, for putting this event together and for all the work she continues to put into creating a platform rooted in compassion and advocacy.

Burlington VegFest, you were incredible! 🖤🌼✨

We had the absolute best time connecting with over 20,000 of you at our second-ever VegFest appearance! To say this was a historic day for @thehonestwhisper (and @burlingtonvegfest!) is an understatement.

Tennis fans weren’t expecting this 😳🎾

Sobeys promised to go 100% cage-free by 2025, but 80% of their eggs still come from caged hens. That’s a major double fault ❌

The ball is in their court, but we’re serving accountability at Sobeys Stadium in Toronto 🇨🇦🎾

Whether you’re choosing cage-free or ditching eggs altogether for delicious plant-based alternatives, we can all agree that cruelty has no place on our plates or in our grocery stores! 🍳🌱
