Today I had the opportunity to connect with cardiac arrest survivors, share my mission, advocate for a cause deeply personal to me, and most importantly, I did this all with the company of my dad.

My dad, a survivor of SCA, was considered to be likely brain dead 4 years ago. The idea that he would one day walk through D.C. with his daughter, advocating for CPR and AED training, was beyond unrealistic. But today, we did.

Because of organizations like Every Second Counts, I am able to help save lives from SCA, and hopefully, have more survivor stories like my dad's!! 💗💗

July 28, 2022, 4 years ago today, is when my dad suffered his sudden cardiac arrest.

I've been able to share my dad's story a lot more because of the Miss America Organization, allowing me to spread awareness about SCA.

My dad's life was saved because of CPR and AED access, but his recovery didn't always reflect improvement.

He was in a coma for over a month, spent a week on ECMO, his kidneys failed and had to be put on dialysis, was intubated, had a tracheostomy, and so, so much more. At 10 years old, the hospital quickly became my new home, and I spent many months not knowing if my dad would ever be the same as he once was.

My CSI is a lot more than just cardiac health, but it's to save families from going through what mine did.

Use today as a reminder to be grateful for every opportunity, every breath, every experience, and every blessing!!

I was so grateful to have had the opportunity to speak last night to my local county park board and announce that my family and I are donating an AED and climate controlled weather proof storage cabinet to the Rappahannock County Park!! by @lucywhitson2011

I was so grateful to get to attend the Miss Louisa and Miss Hanover County pageant this past weekend. So so so excited to watch all of these amazing girls have the most incredible year of service! by @lucywhitson2011

Last night, I had the opportunity to speak at a local safety meeting, and was able to spread awareness for AED accessibility, share my own story, and encourage others to get involved to make AEDs more accessible.
