And paying attention is where mindfulness begins. To notice when your mind has wandered. To notice when your body is tense. To notice the tiny things that make being alive feel a little bit magical. I want to share five small and quick mindfulness practices that help me in everyday life to bring me back to a more peaceful state when feeling overwhelmed: 1: Take a second and zoom all the way out. You’re just a collection of atoms floating on a rock through the vastness of space. That puts things into perspective. 2: Breathe. Making it a habit to check in with yourself and take a deep breath. Longer exhale than inhale. Breath is powerful. Be very conscious about it. 3: Pay attention long enough and the ordinary becomes extraordinary. Rain drops falling from the sky, clouds drifting above you. Sunlight dancing on water. Magic is everywhere, all around you. And inside of you. 4: Close your eyes and count down from 20 to 1. Relax your body. Give your mind one simple thing to focus on instead of following every racing thought. It brings you back to the present moment. 5: Put on a song you love. Music is powerful. Use it to your advantage. Bathe in whatever emotion comes up. Let it move through you and then release. #mindfulness #magic #stillness #healingfromwithin #nervoussystemregulation by @luisalaemmel
