My artistic intention will always be to represent my roots. And when I say roots, I’m speaking about all Latinos. My goal is to showcase our culture, our lifestyle, our flow, and the values that shape who we are. Today, I’m telling that story through Puerto Rican culture, but I’m speaking for an entire continent. Beyond the fictional elements of this short film, the purpose of this project is to show that we have style, history, dreams, character, and a voice of our own. That our stories matter. That our culture runs deep. I’m simply one more among you, a young Latino artist from Montreal trying to represent our people the right way. To honor our values, stay connected to our roots, and tell our stories through my own artistic vision.

I had the opportunity to create this beautiful project alongside my brothers, my cousins, my friends, and the people closest to me. I couldn’t have imagined making this film without you, and you turned this experience into an unforgettable memory. This film is about culture, loyalty, and principles, so who better than you to represent those values? Values that have been instilled in us since we were young and that continue to shape who we are today.

Por último, quiero pedir amor, salud, respeto, fama y éxito, pero con una condición: que dondequiera que vaya, lleve conmigo al callejón💫

‘CÓDIGOS’ will have its international premiere at @luscafilmfest in the “Ecos de la Calle” category🇵🇷

Muchos vieron este cortometraje como una película más, una película con estilo y carácter. Pero la realidad es otra. Este proyecto nace de una cultura que admiro y estudio desde niño. Quizás muchos no notaron ciertos detalles, no entendieron la jerga, la vestimenta, la música, el mensaje... La razón principal es que hice esto pensando en un público específico. Hoy puedo decir, con mucho orgullo, que ese público me abre sus puertas por primera vez, no como turista, sino como artista.

UNRELEASED SCRIPT :
‘UN DIA NORMAL EN LA 27’

“ Another day in the barrio. It’s Friday, 5 PM, and everybody’s outside. People gettin’ off work feelin’ the heat of 27th Street. Barbershops are full of gangsters asicalao from head to toe. Some are playin’ dominoes smoking the hooka sabor parchita, others rollin’ dices and shakin’ a double cup con un remolino de cognac con hielo. Las gatas gettin’ their nails and hair done down the block for tonight’s vacilon. La callosa is full of speakers blastin’ reggaeton y salsa brava everywhere. The OGs rockin’ their Pelle Pelle jackets, slow-rollin’ their ’64 Impala around the block, over and over again. Young fellas runnin’ and playin’ with the fire hydrant’s water while others are buying ice cream from Tito’s truck. Sellin’ ice cream from the right window, sellin’ rocks from the left window, that’s the hustle. Each corner is controlled by a titere, capeando de 9 a 5 y la merca debajo del sillón. Youngsters going to El Gallo’s Bodega after school to get the same drink they get every Friday. Doña Marina hangin’ the wet clothes on her balcony while Don Fernando plays the bongo and throws a mazacote from Ismael Rivera to flirt with her. Shorties lookin’ fly and G’s poppin’ those bottles wrapped up in brown bags. People movin’ up and down the street all afternoon, driftin’ from one jangueo to another under Puerto Rican and Dominican flags stretched from block to block. Every pair of retro Js hanging off the power lines is a lost soul from the 27th. Out here, every day looks ordinary. But beneath the surface, the streets move differently. Lo que sobra es malicia, aquí Pedro se queda sin navaja y Juanito sin maña. It’s like Lavoe’s Calle Luna and Calle Sol rolled into one. El ratón de malla no se cuela, el miedo lo consume antes de meterse al calentón y si se cuela… Se derrite con el queso en la boca. Every move is calculated. Keys arriving inside ice cream boxes and tires, packages are passed through windows, hand-to-hand exchanges in the alleyways, transactions going down in the back of the bodega. Everybody sees it. Nobody talks about it. Everyone knows everyone, but what happens en el barrio stays en el barrio… “ by @luiseduardoapz
