Last night we got to witness something special. Luis Hernandez, a Miami Dade Sheriff’s Deputy, stepped into the UFC and won his debut just days after earning his contract. But why did this feel like a win for all of us? It’s not because of some “cops vs. robbers” shit, but because he’s living proof that this job doesn’t have to be the only thing we become.

This career will take as much of you as you’re willing to give it. Long shifts, deaths, callouts, missed weekends it becomes easy to convince yourself there’s no time left for your dreams. Luis proved otherwise. Maybe your dream isn’t the UFC. Maybe it’s starting a business, finding a way out, getting your degree, chasing something you’ve been afraid to start, or maybe you want to get promoted! Whatever it is, find the time. Make the sacrifice. Pour everything you have into it.

The badge doesn’t have to be the finish line, if you don’t want it to be. Break the pattern, Find an answer

Congratulations Luis, you are a sign of hope to us all. by @luisparati

@luisparati explains the “Thank You” celebration that he added tonight after defeating Sedriques Dumas originally comes from the military 🫡

Hernandez also added that he spoke to the bosses at the UFC and we should expect to see him again very soon
