This isn’t a post I never thought I’d have to make: one of my childhood bestfriends dead at 15. Drew you were a beacon of light wherever you went. One of the smartest kids I ever met. You were always the most happy kid, no matter what the situation was. I don’t think I ever once heard a bad thing come from your mouth. We love you, all of us, your death hit most of us harder than I could have imagined. I remember talking to you Sunday, only three days before your death. We talked about how the culture of the street might have been dying, and how the long summer nights spent on Campbell’s trampoline are probably over. I remember when you first moved on to the street during the covid pandemic, we wrote each other letters about how excited we were to be neighbors. That excitement soon turned into long days spent playing in the yard. We’d play with the Knoblauch’s dogs, we’d play every sport imaginable, we’d learn how to flip on trampolines, we built igloos, and went sledding. When I was in a boot and couldn’t do many physical activities we sat and played board games, a past time we continued enjoying together for the rest of your life. The best part of all those memories isn’t all the stuff we did, it’s the fact we did it together. I am forever grateful I got to spend my childhood with someone as great as you. I will be forever sad it has to pause here until we meet again in heaven. The time in between now and then can’t pass soon enough. You will be missed beyond words. It’s sad to think you won’t ever have a future. I hate to accept that I’ll have to carry on with my life without one of my brothers with me. You truly were my brother, and you were one of the best I could have asked for. The only thing left for us to do now is pray. Pray for those he loved. Pray for those who loved him. by @luke.oberlin
