we don’t like pain. In fact I think our current cultural moment tells us to run and hide from it the very best you can. we have personally funded a new industry called ‘functional health and wellness’ that promises escapes and solutions, at a cost of course. we also have come up with cute little phrases for the result of pain. • “everything happens for a reason” •”time heals all wounds” •”stay positive” •”minor setback for a major comeback •”well look at the bright side..” All of these look to minimize the issue and to rush to the solution. however, the Christian has a unique relationship with pain, don’t we? In fact if it wasn’t for the pain of one man atop the tree at Calvary, we’d all experience indefinite pain. so, in many ways pain was…gain!? of course it was. this doesn’t mean we go on celebrating when pain comes, but maybe it means we also stop running from the realities of it? what if the one who took on the pain, wants to teach us something about Him that we couldn’t know without the experience of pain? what if pain teaches us how to surrender? how to get needy? how to trust again. how to run to Him.

you’d only be insane to hope in the midst of pain if you had someone to run to that can handle the weight of it. there is a song that highlights this perspective. It sings, “death is just a doorway into resurrection life.” It reverberates the truths found in Romans 6:5 and Luke 9:23 that without death we know nothing of life. no pain, no gain? maybe so—likely just not how it was taught to you early on in this life.

here are some helpful phrases in times of pain-

“to live is Christ, to die is gain.”
“for if we have been united with Him in a death like His, we shall certainly be united with Him in a resurrection like His.”

resurrection life knows much of pain — but it knows far more about life. this is gain from pain. by @luke_calvert

Planting is a gift! Church planting gives you a front row seat to how the Lord is growing your families faith. I watched my son worship for the very first time Sunday.

This wouldn’t be possible without Shelby’s commitment. The way the Lord is using her is insane to see up close.

I get to have these friends!? Not only are they growing in their walk with Jesus. BUT - they are using their gifts for God’s glory.
