For most of my life, baseball was a constant. It was everything I did and everything I ever wanted to do. Being able to share the field with so many guys from so many different backgrounds has been such a blessing, and the friendships baseball has given me from when I was a kid until now have made me rich in life in ways that go far beyond the game. Baseball taught me so much about life, but more importantly, it helped me grow in my faith in Jesus Christ. Since getting to college, I have faced a lot of adversity. Surgery at Pitt, two junior colleges in one year, fighting my way back to Division I baseball at Delaware, then Tommy John surgery. Recovering from that and finally getting my first D1 start behind the dish just to have three concussions in two months ultimately force my hand into medically retiring before my career ever really had the chance to take off. To most people, that would be crushing, and honestly before fully accepting the will of God, it probably would have crushed me too. But now I’m grateful for what I went through because removing my identity from baseball and placing it in Christ changed everything for me. Baseball was a blessing, but it was never meant to be my foundation. I encourage others to find their faith and place their worries, success, happiness, failure, and identity in the Lord. Build your life on something truly certain: Jesus. “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.” James 1:2-4 by @luke_lambert_
