Would have made the podium for most LFGs, stops at aid stations, and time spent fixing Andy’s popped tire 2kms into the bike.

Lots of fun and overall big win. To think 3 years ago I was roasting @louis_sabourin in Texas, saying he’s not an athlete cause he can run bike and swim (he was not partying cause he had an iron man), to progressively becoming one myself through getting roasted back and doing harder races each year.

Moral of the story… peer pressure works!

The only honest triathlon review on the internet… (post-game interview)

But really, this has unquestionably been the most challenging endeavor yet.

People have been asking me why I chose to do this (& signed up for the half Ironman in 2.5 weeks), and I have a few main reasons:

1. Learning not to negotiate with myself. The self-talk during long endurance races is wild, same with training. But in doing so, I’m developing a relationship with my brain where when I say go, I GO.

2. Relying on willpower isn’t enough. It’s so easy to blow off commitments you make to yourself when they aren’t tied to something specific. Personally, signing up for something that scares me and pushes me beyond my comfort zone is the perfect motivation to stick to the plan.

3. To simply be more dialed. Doing hard things for the sake of doing hard things. It’s rewarding and makes everything else in life easier. I’ve always believed in adding more to my plate and picking up the pieces along the way.

Although the training was more than I was used to, I most definitely walked in undertrained and underprepared. I’m still proud of my accomplishment and less attached to the time than to finishing the race and becoming more disciplined—and in better shape—through the process.
