What An Experience!

So glad I made the leap, got a boat, and worked to become capable of “competing” in a regatta like the Switch Worlds.

I’ve come away from this week with a new appreciation for this corner of the sport and the sailors pushing it in these boats.

The support from Element Six and their charter program was awesome and they made it so easy. I think everyone capable of racing a Moth or graduating from the Waszp should book a charter at the upcoming events. Great reps and a great fleet.

A1R did a great job organizing training camps in the year prior and making a cohesive American group in Garda to focus the development of invested American sailors in the class.

Great week sailing with old friends and new. Enjoyed dialing in a new class of boat and tweaking sails. We came out on top and some of the battles were hard fought which is always a blast. Hope to sail these boats again soon. taken in Newport, Rhode Island by @lukemuller_

Jammin last week in the USVI 🇻🇮

One boat, two missions.

First, we raced around St. John with my friend John and a crew of high-performers. They expected a top-tier operation on a condensed timeline, and it was a great challenge to meet that standard while introducing some new studs to the racecourse.

Secondly, we raced the STIR with local high schoolers to introduce them to high-performance offshore sailing as a part of the NEKA Sailing program. Their enthusiasm was a great reminder of the chances I got on Melges 32s in Fort Lauderdale at that age and it was a privilege to pass that opportunity forward.

For me, it was a rewarding week of executing a vision and guiding a team toward daily improvements. Being shorthanded also gave me a good chance to sharpen the dual-role of managing the nav on the tablet through the rocks while calling tactics in the open water.

The days continue to stack…

The last day of J70 midwinters were cut short. We were the first ones to the hoist and I was able to rig up my Switch and get on the water. I pushed my comfort zone in 17-22knts and choppy. Definitely crashed more than I landed but my maneuvers got better and that’s what it’s all about.
