I remember studying black-and-white real film photography and the many hours in the dark room processing film back in my college days, and how that trained my eye to see tonality from pure white to pure deep black. It's probably the most important thing I took with me from my formal education and how it's shaped my approach to type design and illustration over the years. ๐ŸŸกNEW WORK - Working alongside the team at @elmwood.global, I crafted a juicy update to the @ribenauk wordmark. The challenge was to update the lettering by establishing the mark on a baseline and bringing in a few more flavourful cues into the letterforms. My work is a small but critical part of the new look for Ribena, which surely will bring a big business impact for them as they redefine themselves. This formed part of a major campaign called "Thereโ€™s No Taste Like Home," which seeks to reconnect with British families and rediscover their heritage. The letter 'a was a new creation, while the 'e' brought in some flavour cues. The relationship between the 'R' and the 'i was an important one. I partnered with Stellenbosch University, one of South Africa's top tertiary institutions, to develop a comprehensive brand identity system that would last for the next 100 years +.ย  I was tasked with improving current branding as well as developing a new ceremonial emblem design, as well as developing many of the co-brands and sub-brands of the university as well as creating grid systems and brand manuals. I also developed a custom typeface. The project held great significance as this is my hometown where I grew up, so it was extra special to beย involved, and it was great working with the team and having discussions with management about the best ways forward. It's been a serious minute since I posted something on Instagram. I have a bunch of projects I haven't posted yet so figured I would finally post this one - the presentation process can sometimes to drag on and on in the pursuit of perfection, so it's time to release this one into the wild.
