Luke Grant / Held by Tape

@lukexstreet

Held by Tape looks beyond the walls of Cebu’s oldest basilica to the people whose daily work quietly sustains the place. Vendors, labourers and an ageing photographer become symbols of resilience, dignity and perseverance. Luke Grant’s photographs are less about hardship than about hope, reminding us that meaningful work is often built not on perfect circumstances, but on the simple act of showing up.

Selected by Street Attitude.

Created over years of walking Toronto’s streets, this body of work reflects moments of solitude, resilience, protest, humour, faith, and human connection that quietly shape the city’s identity.

When I first started photography, every new thing I learned came with an “aha” moment.

Eventually, I got comfortable. Maybe too comfortable.

That’s one reason I started shooting film, not to become a “real” photographer, but to have that feeling of not knowing, that freedom to be bad.

I’m still learning, still making mistakes, and still looking for that next moment when something finally clicks.

I’ve been in a creative rut for almost a month now.

I have photographs. I have ideas. I have unfinished projects. But every time I try to make something, my brain just stops.

And eventually I started asking myself.

Is this imposter syndrome, or am I just bad?

Maybe I’m overthinking everything. Maybe I’m comparing myself too much. Or maybe I’m simply becoming more aware of how much I still have to learn.

The frustrating part is that I don’t think I’ve lost my desire to photograph. I’m just struggling to find something worth saying.

So maybe the answer isn’t to figure everything out.

Maybe I just need to go outside, make some bad photographs, make some mediocre ones, and keep going until something clicks.

Maybe being stuck is just part of becoming better.
