For thousands of Venezuelan New Yorkers, the devastation caused by last month’s earthquakes isn’t just felt miles away—it’s felt here at home.Since news of the disaster broke, I’ve been immensely proud to see New Yorkers turn compassion into action. Today, I visited Lulla’s, a neighborhood restaurant that was transformed into a collection center for earthquake relief by owner Ivo Diaz. I joined volunteers packing donations like food, medicine, clothing, and even wheelchairs, that will support relief efforts on the ground in Venezuela.If you’re able, I encourage you to volunteer with Lulla’s to help provide critical support to those in need.—Para miles de venezolanos en Nueva York, los terremotos del mes pasado no son una tragedia lejana. Los sienten aquí, en su propia casa. Desde que llegó la noticia, los neoyorquinos han respondido con el corazón, y verlos convertir la solidaridad en acción me llena de orgullo. Hoy estuve en Lulla's, un restaurante del barrio que su dueño, Ivo Díaz, convirtió en un centro de acopio para los damnificados. Ayudé a los voluntarios a empacar donaciones: comida, medicinas, ropa e incluso sillas de ruedas. Todo eso va de camino a Venezuela, a la gente que lo necesita. Solemos pensar que una hormiga es algo insignificante, un ser tan pequeño que cuesta creer que pueda cambiar algo. Y probablemente, para ellas, nosotros también lo seamos.Pero las hormigas nos recuerdan algo que los seres humanos olvidamos con frecuencia, ninguna intenta cargar el mundo sola.Cada una hace una pequeña parte. Una hoja, un grano de arena, un camino recorrido una y otra vez, y cuando miles trabajan con un mismo propósito, construyen, protegen y transforman su mundo.Hoy nosotros nos hemos convertido en esas hormigas.En cada rincón del mundo hay alguien haciendo su parte. Unos donan, otros organizan, otros cargan cajas, otros cocinan, otros comparten una publicación, otros simplemente preguntan… En qué puedo ayudar?Si lo vemos de manera individual, cada gesto parece pequeño, pero cuando todos avanzamos en la misma dirección, esos pequeños actos dejan de ser insignificantes y se convierten en algo mucho más grande que cualquiera de nosotros.La tarea es larga y el camino apenas comienza., pero mientras existan personas dispuestas a hacer ese trabajo de hormiguita, nuestra colmena siempre encontrará la manera de salir adelante.
