One year of Bookstagram! 🥹📚 What started as a little account to share my love for books and get lost in stories with people who feel the same has grown into something I’m so grateful for. I’ve read so many amazing books, discovered new favorites, made wonderful friends, and found a community that makes my love for reading even more special. Thank you to everyone who has been here, supported me, and shared this journey with me. Here’s to another year of books, fictional characters, and getting completely lost in stories. 🤍📖 by @lulzireads

This was taken on November 4th, 2013, on my birthday.

One of the most rewarding, but also one of the most difficult, times in my life.

I had just left Kuwait with my husband and our one-year-old boy, and had just found out I was pregnant with our second boy. I was doing my Master’s degree at the University of Birmingham, and we had taken a little break to visit some family in Glasgow.

I still remember this birthday, and I still remember that morning. It was a little light in what was a very difficult time. I had uprooted our life, changed everything for my husband and my little boy, and was overwhelmed by guilt and responsibility. I felt like a fish out of water in this cold, unfamiliar place, but somehow, I always found comfort in books and reading.

Good times, hard times… but I was halfway through achieving my dreams.

Now, I’m currently finishing my PhD, this time online and from the comfort of my home. It’s certainly less difficult in many ways, but I’m still so thankful for that experience. Looking back, I think that version of me was braver than she ever gave herself credit for. 🤍 by @lulzireads

Get to know me✨

Hi everyone! I’m new to this bookstagram, and I thought I’d share a little about myself. I’ve always been drawn to stories, whether in books or films, and they’ve been such a big part of my life. When I was a child, I would spend hours watching movies on VHS, replaying them over and over without ever getting bored. From early on, I felt this pull to visit other universes, and that love only grew stronger when I started reading.

My mother influenced me to pick up books at a young age, and I still remember the moment my obsession truly began when I borrowed Walk Two Moons from my school library. Since then, I’ve been enchanted by books, not just by their stories but also by the way they look on shelves, the different colors, the different styles, each one hiding a universe inside. Libraries and bookstores have always felt magical to me.

There was a time when I lost touch with reading, but thankfully, over the past two years, the passion has come back stronger than ever. Because of how deeply I love this world, I studied English literature in college, then continued into literature and film, and now I’m a PhD candidate at the University of Leicester, still exploring the worlds that books and movies create.

Of course, I’m not only about books and films. I’m also a mother and a scuba diver instructor, but some of my most cherished moments are when I sit in my little nook and get lost in yet another story.

🤖 Never Tell a Secret by Miranda Rijks 🤖
ARC Review

Loved it! 😍😍 This was a frustratingly good thriller, OMG! It frustrated me SO MUCH, but in the best way possible! And Marcel? I HATE THAT MAN WITH EVERY BONE IN MY BODY. MY GOD! 😭🤬

Emma and her family are going through a difficult time when they’re offered the chance to test ClarityU, a revolutionary AI therapy app created by their wealthy friend, Marcel. At first, it seems like the perfect solution to their problems, but there’s a catch: Marcel can access every confession, fear, and secret they share with the app. As their private thoughts begin to be used against them and their lives spiral out of control, Emma starts questioning whether Marcel is really the friend she thought he was. 👀

I always enjoy Miranda Rijks’s books, and this one was no exception! It’s fast-paced, addictive, and full of the kind of tension that makes you want to keep reading even when the characters are driving you absolutely INSANE. 😂

What I particularly loved was how the story tackles such a serious and relevant issue in today’s world: the dangers of AI, surveillance, and blindly trusting technology and the people behind it. We share so much of ourselves online without always thinking about who might have access to that information or how it could be used against us. This book takes that fear and turns it into a genuinely unsettling thriller!

Miranda Rijks knows how to write addictive stories, and I will happily keep picking up everything she writes. Thank you, Miranda, for another fantastic read, and thank you to NetGalley for the ARC! 🖤

🧙‍♀️The Witch by Freida McFadden 🧙‍♀️

I loved it 🥹 This was SO different from the usual Freida reads, and I honestly loved every part of it! I found myself equally invested in both timelines, which I really enjoyed.

And if you know me, you KNOW how much I love a paranormal element… and witches?! Oh my 😍🧙‍♀️

So this book is about Julia Barlow arrives at her family’s centuries-old estate, Pemberton, after losing her job and apartment, supposedly to check on her grandmother. But strange things start happening in the house, and Julia becomes determined to uncover its dark history. At the same time, we’re taken back to 1692 and Caroline’s story, as the events surrounding her accusation of witchcraft slowly connect to what is happening at Pemberton in the present day.

This was such a fun and atmospheric read! It didn’t have the huge “PULLED THE RUG OUT FROM UNDER YOU” twists I usually expect from Freida, but instead it had those subtle little “ah huh… 👀 wait a minute” moments that slowly make everything click and I LOVED that.

Definitely a different Freida, but one I was very happy to read. 🖤🧙‍♀️ by @lulzireads

👯‍♀️To All the Men I’ve Killed Before by Katy Brent👯‍♀️

🥹🥹 THIS IS NOT A GOODBYE, KITTY COLLINS… this is “until we meet again,” right?! Because I NEED more of this series. 😭

I enjoyed this one a lot, although not quite as much as the previous two. It was still such a fun read! This time we’re in Los Angeles, and the setting was atmospheric and worked so well with the story. I also LOVED the new duo we got in this one. 👀

I will say, though… I fear Kitty Collins has gone soft. 😂 This one felt a lot more romantic than the previous two, and I found parts of it a little more predictable. BUT we have another one coming, so we’re good. 🤣 And I absolutely LOVE the new addition to the series. IYKYK. 👀

I still had such a great time with it, and I cannot wait for more Kitty Collins. Give me the next book NOW. 🔪🩸

Another chaotic, dark, twisted Kitty Collins adventure and I am absolutely not ready to say goodbye. 🥹 by @lulzireads

🐷Carrie by Stephen King🐷

Wooooow. 😍

I might be late to the party, but I finally get it. I understand now why Stephen King is Stephen King. 😂

And this was his first novel?! I had no idea! My first Stephen King book being his very first novel feels kind of fitting. 🥹

I’ve seen both Carrie films the old and the new numerous times, and I’ve always loved the story and both adaptations. So I honestly thought the book might feel redundant, but it really didn’t. It was surprisingly different and gave me so much more to appreciate about the story.

I especially loved the police reports, witness accounts, newspaper articles, and all the little pieces woven into the narrative. They gave the book such a different feel and made the story feel almost like you were piecing together a real event after it happened.

And the writing! The way King captured the tone and atmosphere of its zeitgeist made the whole thing even more compelling. It felt very much of its time while still being completely gripping.

I also started off immersive reading this one, but then I stopped using the ebook and switched completely to the audiobook because… DO YOU KNOW WHO THE NARRATOR IS?! SISSY SPACEK. 😭😭😭

She did such an amazing job. I genuinely could not stop listening. Her narration made the experience even better, and once I switched to audio, I was completely hooked.

I was also buddy reading this with @readwithnale , but I just… could not put it down. 🤣 Sorry bestie, I had to KEEP GOING. 😂

I LOVED IT. ❤️‍🔥

So naturally, I’m currently adding approximately ALL of Stephen King’s books to my TBR. 🤣

I think I’m officially obsessed. 📚🎈 by @lulzireads

🍾I Bet You’d Look Good in A Coffin by Katy Brent🍾

Aaaaaah, I LOVE IT! 😭 I seriously can’t get enough of Kitty Collins. I want to dive straight into the next book, but at the same time… I DON’T want this series to end! 😂

I Bet You’d Look Good in a Coffin by Katy Brent follows Kitty Collins as she gets herself into yet another chaotic, dark, and completely unhinged situation involving murder, revenge, and the kind of trouble that somehow always seems to find her. Kitty is honestly one of my favourite FMCs because she is absolutely insane, hilarious, unapologetic, and somehow still so entertaining that you can’t help but root for her. 😂

I will say, I think this one was a little more far-fetched than the first book, and there were definitely moments where I was like… girl, HOW are we getting away with this?! 😂 But honestly? I didn’t even care because I was having way too much fun with the drama.

Katy Brent really knows how to write a twisted, darkly funny story with a completely unhinged FMC, and I am HERE FOR IT. Kitty Collins is basically my idol at this point. 😂

Also… WHEN is this getting adapted into a TV series?! Because I NEED to see Kitty Collins brought to life. I can already imagine the chaos. 😭

I can’t wait to read the next one, but I’m also already mourning the fact that eventually I’ll have no more Kitty Collins books left. 🥲 by @lulzireads

🗓️THE ANNIVERSARY by Alex Finlay🗓️

Such a great book!! I really enjoyed this one.

This is a mystery thriller about Jules and Quinn, two teenagers whose lives become permanently intertwined after a life-changing night in 1992. Jules survives an attack by the May Day Killer, a serial killer who strikes every May 1st, while Quinn finds himself dealing with the aftermath of a completely different tragedy. From there, we follow their lives over the next decade, returning to them on May 1st every year as secrets unravel and two mysteries slowly move toward the truth. 🔪

And honestly, my favorite thing about this book was the way it was structured! Every year, we come back to May 1st. So instead of following the characters continuously, we jump from one year to the next, always on the same date. I LOVED this concept. It made the whole book feel different and gave it this really atmospheric, almost nostalgic quality.

I also really enjoyed Finlay’s writing style. It was simple in the BEST way, it was easy to follow, well-paced, and never felt overly complicated or unnecessarily wordy. I loved the mystery/thriller aspect, but more than anything, I loved the atmosphere of this book. It just had a very particular feeling to it that worked so well with the premise.

And okay… I DID guess who the perpetrator was 😅😂 but surprisingly, that didn’t take away from my enjoyment at all! I was still invested in seeing how everything would unfold and how all the pieces would come together.

Overall, such an atmospheric, clever, and entertaining mystery thriller. I really enjoyed this one! by @lulzireads

🎀🔪How to Kill Men and Get Away With It by Katy Brent 🎀🔪

Ooooh my god! Such a fun book! 😂 I can’t say this enough. I LOVE a twisted and unhinged FMC, and Kitty Collins is everything! Kitty Collins is my idol 😂🔪

Kitty Collins is a glamorous influencer who has had enough of men getting away with hurting women. So when she comes across men who she believes deserve punishment, she takes matters into her own hands… literally. What follows is a dark, twisted and ridiculously entertaining journey of female revenge, murder, secrets and trying not to get caught.

I LOVE a book that is completely unhinged and funny, and the British humour made this peak entertainment for me! 😂🇬🇧

It reminded me so much of the Sweetpea series, only I actually enjoyed this one more. I found it faster-paced and more addictive, whereas Sweetpea was much darker and had even darker comedy.

It also gave me Promising Young Woman (2020) vibes, so if you enjoyed either of those, I definitely recommend giving this one a try!

I just love a good female revenge story, especially when the FMC is completely twisted and unapologetic. Give me an unhinged woman with questionable morals and I’m seated. 😂🔪

Another great month!! 📚✨

I think I’m stressing myself out trying to keep up this 23-books-a-month standard… not stressful, not stressful at all. 😂

Nah, I’m kidding! I just read and listen as much as I can, whenever I can. ❤️

But BOOOOY was I tough with my ratings this month 😅 Borderline evil, honestly. 😂 I did get a little reading slump after Butter, but I picked myself up pretty quickly and got myself out of it. Ain’t no reading slump that can’t be cured by a good popcorn thriller! 😂📖

My favorite book this month was The Turn of the Key — LOVED it! 🔑❤️ And an honorable mention goes to I Who Have Never Known Men. What a book!! 😭

Hope you had an amazing September, and now… LET THE SPOOKY MONTH BEGIN!!! Wooohooooo! 👻🧙‍♀️🎃 by @lulzireads

⚔️Powerless by Lauren Roberts ⚔️

This was not bad, not bad at all 😂

But I do get the negative reviews on this one. I really do. Why? Because this is not new. I’ve read so many books with similar concepts, and honestly, there was nothing about it that felt particularly original. It felt like a combination of Red Queen, The Hunger Games, and Daggermouth and I never really got that feeling of “I’ve never read anything like this before.”

With that said, it was entertaining! I enjoyed the reading experience, and sometimes that’s all I need 😂

Also, reading this after Crescent City was honestly refreshing because WOW… this was SO easy in comparison 🤣🤣 I feel like I needed this book after all the mental gymnastics Crescent City put me through.

In a world where people are divided by supernatural abilities, Paedyn Gray is an Ordinary living among the Elites. She has no powers, but she’s learned how to survive by pretending she does. When circumstances force her into the kingdom’s dangerous Trials, she finds herself caught between survival, secrets, and a very complicated relationship with one of the kingdom’s most powerful people.

Overall: entertaining, easy to read, but not particularly original. ⚡️ by @lulzireads
