What a ride! Thank you to all the runners at @sydneysbackyardultra for wearing your hearts on your sleeves.

There were 631 stories out there and we’re so happy we got to tell a few of them.

No race can showcase the human spirit like the backyard can. We’re so grateful to be able to play a small role in this one.

A year ago we filmed a gala for the No Taps Foundation and did nothing with the footage.

We honestly just didn’t know what the story was.

This week we went back into it and realised it wasn’t hiding a story, more so a question.

How do you get people who will never live inside a situation to genuinely care about it?

The whole exercise becomes building a bridge between two worlds that will most likely never meet.

Two realities, happening at the same time, that were never going to cross paths on their own.

Allan flew in from Nairobi carrying an actual 20L jerrycan, the same ones kids as young as 6 or 7 fill & carry back home.

He didn’t want people looking at it.

He wanted them holding it.

You can’t really transplant an experience. You can describe it, film it, put a jerrycan in someone’s hand, but the felt reality of that walk isn’t transferable.

What actually crosses the bridge isn’t the experience.

It’s the weight.

The choice to keep the other life in your head after you leave the room.

That’s what Allan’s doing with the jerrycan. That’s what Janice is doing with the foundation.

And in a smaller way, sitting on this footage for a year, that’s what we’re trying to figure out too.

A year later, we still don’t have the answer. But we’ve got the question now, which is more than we had before. by @luminamadeit

There’s a chef we’ve been trying to film for over a year and we still can’t let it go.

Kenta runs an entire Japanese restaurant on his own, and it turns out he’s got a life story you’d never predict. After getting an opportunity to get to know him we haven’t stopped thinking about him since.

We made a video where we talk honestly about the film we’d loveeee to make more than any other and why we can’t get it. To be honest, we’re keeping some things close to the chest as we still think there’s a reality where we get to make this one properly someday.

Insane to think that @treglz one day out of the blue told us he wanted to have a half marathon in Parramatta. And now it happened.

Grateful to be passengers on the mammoth voyage @parramattahalfmarathon was. Also incredibly blessed to cook with one of the best @jeraldluya by @luminamadeit

Lately, we’ve been so focused on our own lives and that’s it.

Building the business, chasing growth, trying to make things work that it feels like we don’t have much left to give outside of that.

And it led us to a question we couldn’t shake…

How do people dedicate their time, every single week, to helping others?

So we went to spend time with our friend Sarah.

She runs a food service for people experiencing homelessness, showing up week in, week out with her husband and a group of volunteers. No matter the weather, no matter what’s going on in her own life - she shows up.

We wanted to understand what drives that.

Not just what she does, but why she does it.

LIGHTING THE PATH

Throughout time, storytelling has served as a core tool for our survival. Every culture and creed has shared knowledge, cultural values, and social cohesion through narratives.

Stories are social glue for humanity. They’re more memorable than facts alone because they take fact and embed meaning and emotion to tattoo our brains with lessons to help take on our challenges.

We believe stories are the roots of life, growth and connection. Our mission isn’t to create stories, millions of them already exist!

We light the path so stories can be told and seen — so we feel the emotions that make us human.
