My wool & mohair journey My love for wool and mohair stretches back to my oldest memories of feeling loved and comforted. Furthermore, I value these fibres for their sustainability and quality, and for their contribution to South Africa’s economy. The local supply chain supports jobs in farming, yarn production, knitwear manufacturing, and retail. My brand aims to support a flourishing Africa and to make beautiful, sustainable, proudly South African products easier to choose. PS my baby mohair blankie has since been claimed by my Basset Hound… by @luminousware_sa

Add some French flair today 🇫🇷 Life’s too short not to add beauty, fragrance and wool to your day. N’est-ce pas? 🐩 by @luminousware_sa
Senses: Less than obvious reasons to love wool Wool captivates the senses. It has a natural beauty that brings an unexpected comfort. Merino wool, for example, features a crimp or natural wavy architecture, that is quite simply enchanting. Not to mention an encounter with natural black wool - in its varying dramatic, delightful shades. Then there’s the mysterious, deep comfort that the touch of wool brings. Be it as a light knit against the skin or the warm hug of a heavy blanket. Even other animals are known to snuggle up against a wool bearing sheep. And also Lanolin - the natural, waxy substance on wool. Countless individuals who experienced sheep shearing during their childhood have told me how the smell of lanolin brings back beautiful, vivid memories even after decades. So wool impacts on our senses in ways that can make a lasting impression. by @luminousware_sa

Wool in artistic expression Artists and designers are embracing the possibilities that wool offers to create pieces that are a feast for the eyes and that move the heart. The tactile experience that wool offers is surely one of its biggest draw cards. Wool brings a mysterious sense of comfort to the person who touches it - be it wearing wool apparel, wrapping up in a wool blanket, sitting on a wool pouf. In South Africa, wool appreciation amongst artists is gaining a lot of traction. The annual @karoo_winter_wool_festival started offering an outdoor fashion show (on a merino sheep farm) as a part of its 2023 festival line-up. This then evolved into the Wool World exhibition curated by @viviers.studio and @hovendesign in which makers explore South African wool through fashion, art, craft and design. It is so encouraging to see that modern artists and makers are rediscovering and embracing wool again. The Wool Tribe is real And it transcends all barriers. I discovered this at the first @karoo_winter_wool_festival in 2022. A merino sheep farm served as the gathering place for wool lovers from far and wide: farmers, designers, students, crafters, wool merchants, wool wearers. People were drawn from all over South Africa, from different backgrounds and cultures to join in celebrating WOOL! And the joy was contagious. The festival is still going strong and has truly given rise to a growing community of wool lovers. The festival is now also embracing other natural fibres. I never saw this coming, but what a privilege to be a part of it. The @karoo_winter_wool_festival serves as an annual injection of hope for people like me who are clinging to authenticity in this fast-changing world. by @luminousware_sa
