Nine steps. One flower. No shortcuts.

What you see in these ten frames is a single velvet camellia & lily comb - beginning as a bundle of silk threads and ending as a finished flower in two hands.

01 brush the velvet smooth
02 bind each thread to copper wire
03 cut the velvet into strips
04 roll the strips tight
05 open the fibres
06 trim the tips
07 press and steam
08 set the curve
09 gather the petals into a flower

There is no shortcut in this order. Skip a step and the petals will not hold their curve - they will go soft by the end of the evening.

Every Lunar Bloom piece is made this way, by hand, in our studio in Nanjing. It takes longer than it should. That is rather the point.

Because it is made by hand, no two come out quite the same, each flower carries its own small differences.

Camellia & Lily, from the Quietly Wild chapter. Made to order, one at a time.

deep purple camellia and lilies, coming together petal by petal 🖤
halloween asked and the workshop answered.
this one’s for the ones who want a little dark with their flowers.

Just me, some silk, and a quiet afternoon. 💜

Spent my afternoon in the studio today, slowly shaping this little purple flower.

It takes hours to wrap the copper wire and shape every petal by hand.

Honestly, my fingers get a bit tired, but it’s so peaceful watching it slowly come to life.

Turning Silk Threads Into a Purple Pumpkin 🎃💜

Just silk threads, a little patience, and a Halloween idea. 🎃💜

Watching this little pumpkin come to life was so satisfying.

Well… someone told me to make a feather pen. 😀🪶

And I actually listened. 😊

@𝕊𝕦𝕞𝕞𝕖𝕣♡ this one was your idea!
Here’s the first purple feather pen I made. 💜

Now I’m wondering what other ideas you guys have…
I might actually make them. 👀

I didn’t expect this tiny detail to take so much time.🤭

What do you think these are for? 😀

A few tiny wires, a little purple, and a lot of patience… 😏

I’ve been working on something a little different lately.
These little pieces are just the beginning.

Any guesses? 👀

I’ll show you what they become in my next post.

Making a purple flower comb 💜

This one turned out a little bigger than usual.

Lots of little flowers,
lots of purple,
and a little time putting everything together.

I really like how it came together in the end. 💜

A purple orchid, coming together. 💜

Slowly shaping each little piece,
and somehow, it starts to look like an orchid.

I really like watching this part —
when a few simple pieces suddenly become a flower. 💜
