“…this print, Incoko, for Umkhuluwa Lunga Mkila, is dedicated to you. Will be part of the body of work.” — Andile Bhala. Enkosi Bhut’ I’m honoured and humbled. When we two do meet, the third will be this music! 🖤 by @lunga.mkila

1964 Castle National Jazz Festival in Orlando, we cross paths with Malombo. It starts here, in 1962: legendary Chris McGregor is also on the scene with his Septet; Eric Nomvete’s Big Band 5 brings the house down with “Pondo Blues,” earning a roaring standing ovation and walking away with Crowd Favourite Performance on the day, pity the judges. Individual honors went to Dudu Pukwana for Best Musician and Mongezi Feza for Best Trumpet. “This is your history, the story of your people” — Amiri Baraka 🖤

FYI: This copy of the record is still sealed and completely unplayed. It brings up that nagging internal crisis most collectors face: “Who am I even preserving it for?” 🤔 by @lunga.mkila
