Dances of the world, NEPAL - Maruni Dance for @missworld

Step by step, rhythm by rhythm, Miss Nepal World brings the soul of Nepal to the Miss World stage through Maruni, one of the oldest and most cherished folk dances of the Nepalese culture.

Originating within the Magar community, Maruni is a living tapestry of Nepal’s rich indigenous heritage and is traditionally performed during major festivals like Dashain and Tihar (the Festival of Lights), the dance celebrates the ultimate triumph of good over evil, unity, and communal harmony.

Dressed in vibrant traditional attire by @sonam_subba_limbu , rich ornaments, and moving to the resonant beats of the Madal and Naumati Baja ( instrument) , dancers weave together sacred mythologies and the grace of daily rural life.

Holding brass plates (thali) symbolises a sacred offering to the gods, transforming the dance into a ritual of worship, light, and blessings for the community.

Dancers balance the plates on their palms—often spinning them continuously without dropping them while performing complex footwork—representing extraordinary physical discipline, poise, and inner balance.

The metallic shine and subtle clinking of the plates synchronized with the beat of the madal amplify the visual and auditory resonance of the performance.

Showcased on a global platform, choreographed by @the_kesav5 Maruni represents not just performance art, but a vital effort to preserve and honor ancestral traditions for generations to come. by @luniluit

During these heavy and challenging times, sometimes having something to hold onto means everything. Seeing Nepal reach the Top 24 for Beauty With a Purpose feels deeply personal. From every bit of fundraising to all the tireless work behind the scenes, this journey has been a beautiful roller coaster.

World Designer Award - Nepal - Luna Luitel

This striking black gown is inspired by the agricultural landscapes of Nepal and Vietnam, featuring a bold silhouette that reflects the strength and beauty of both nations. The deep black color symbolizes Nepal’s fertile Kalo Mato (black soil), the foundation of growth and harvest. With its flowing design and nature-inspired details, the gown serves as a cultural bridge between the two countries, celebrating their shared connection to the land, heritage, and enduring spirit. Designed by NhaMot.

Miss World will be crowned on September 5 at 8 PM local time during a worldwide live broadcast from Nha Trang, Vietnam.

What an incredible privilege to play a little piece of Nepal, a beautiful Vietnamese song, and end with the iconic Miss World theme song. Despite having very little time to prepare, I’m so grateful to my trainer @ashishflute_official for being incredibly patient and supportive throughout this journey.

For the performance, @sonam_subba_limbu created a special embellished with lotus flowers which is also the national flower of Vietnam, a beautiful way to celebrate Vietnamese culture while keeping a little piece of Nepal close to my heart.

Although I didn’t make it to the Top 3, I had the most amazing time on stage. It was a truly beautiful experience, so thank you @missworld, for giving me this platform to share music, culture and a little tradition from back home❤️

This is ‘Diyalo’; Nepal’s Beauty with a purpose project for the 75th @missworld !

For this project, Miss Nepal World 2025 @luniluit built a self sustaining eco ‘Duna Taparai ‘ factory project where the women of ‘Phalebas’ village can earn their livelihood from. As part of her project she also helped build an IT library in the school of Phalebas.
