Let’s talk about it cause why y’all ain’t warn me! I couldn’t be more proud of my Gia and how much she blossomed over this 6th grade year. “A/B” Honor roll, student counsel, county spelling bee contestant, new member of 7th grade cheer team, city team swimmer, and my 200m track runner. I knew transitioning from a predominantly white private school to a diverse public school would bring challenges, I just didn’t know it would be so dang dramatic socially. The need for constant communication with friends, group chats with miscellaneous people, TikTok exposure to kids interpretations of depression/anxiety, “boyfriends,” and then add in hormones. My biggest take away from this year was to “seek help.” I’m not a gentle parenting mother, my skin is probably the toughest known to (wo)man, I believe in chores, screen times, and everything that made me the “strictest” mother of the year! It came apparent to me that I can’t meet Gia where she is because I don’t relate. I didn’t want to disregard her thoughts and emotions so I asked for help for the both of us! From family, friends and professionals. If you are me and you’ve questioned your parenting style, felt guilt (knowing she’ll get it one day), thought about succumbing to the easier way, and/or pray that what seems like “the most” to them won’t make them love you any less… talk to someone! Idc how many children you have, each child is different and requires a different set of instructions. F*?$ embarrassment or shame, we only get 1 chance to get it right! Telling those babies you love them or thinking “this too shall pass” isn’t always enough. Look at the news lately! #teenagegirls #middleschool by @luv_leah

This is 40! & when I say I have prayed those scary prayers and can literally feel the shifts, you know of God moving, correcting, guiding and opening doors. Baby, I embrace this new year of life!
