I wrote a song with @elmermuziek that came out last week as part of her new album MAN OH MAN. The song is called mistlamp/zoeklicht (fog lamp/searchlight, which doesn’t sound nearly as good as it does in dutch)

A year ago I received an image (swipe), some lyrics and the question whether I wanted to create something together. I said yes, in all fairness a little unsure, but Merel was sure for the both of us. I couldn’t get rid of the melody I heard when I read the words of the chorus and recorded a voice memo right away. Merel came over and I showed her my beloved casio sk1. She sang and I produced, things we don’t do in front of / for others all the time. Maybe we should more often. Merel then took it home and to @keenanmundane, adding horns and having @pitouou sing something heavenly and look where it is now: everywhere 🔦 Proud !

Thanks Merel for inviting me to be a part of your beautifully strange universe. And say hi to Freddy. The only videos I got from our days of writing are of my daughter trying to pronounce Freddy 🐕 so here’s my little bts, full experience is to be experienced on the record (link in bio) by @luwten

“Zachtere of stillere muziek komt niet overal even goed over.

In samenwerking @metbrut. Tickets via @burgerweeshuis

Announcing the lineup for ‘slow follow’ #2 and #3 this fall

Oct 9 — Deventer (NL)
Dec 12 — Nijeveen (NL)

Both evenings will feature special guests Luka (on keys, vocals and guitar) and Binkbeats (on surround setup, bass and percussion). Each joining me on stage and playing some of their own work too. The shows will be in surround, with speakers all around you. We’ll listen to a composition by Laura Kampman. Words by Bregje Hofstede will open the evening. (Swipe for more info on each artist.)

With the multidisciplinary ‘slow follow’ concert series, we create space for the quiet and the implicit: seated, muted, in collaboration with other artists. Feeling very lucky to be able to do this two more times this year.

Tickets are available through link in bio

Luka
Artist, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Luka (Lisa Lukasczyk) has made some of the best music this little country has to offer (Lost Today / Found Tomorrow makes me cry every single time), impeccable taste in sound and earth’s most beautiful vibrato. We met in Rotterdam where we were both studying music. For the sharp-eyed viewers: you might have seen her before in the live video for IOMH II back in 2019 (!) or last year during the live performance of Disappear at Centraal Museum. Can’t wait to now play an entire show together and to hear her play some of her own music as well. (Photo by Yujiro Saito)

Binkbeats
Artist, multi-instrumentalist and producer Binkbeats (Frank Wienk) is a genius who has made incredible performances (have you seen ‘ohm’?), live-videos and music. We met at an Eefje de Visser show over ten years ago. He was playing drums and I asked if he wanted to create something together afterwards. We have been making music ever since: Luwten sounds like Luwten because of our collaboration. Bink has been working with surround sound for some time now and he’ll be creating the space in which we’ll play this fall. We’ve only shared the stage twice before these so I’m so glad we get to double that this second half of 2026. (Photo by Bowie Verschuur by @luwten

used to be o lder comes with a video, directed with Nick Helderman and filmed by Milan van Dril.

For the shoot, we were able to join a Qigong class taught by Rosanne Groenendijk, filming her, her class and a few curious newcomers on a summer evening two weeks ago in the city of Utrecht, here in The Netherlands.

used to be o lder is a song longing to grow older without losing what makes you feel alive. About time as something you can participate in, not have to retreat from. I loved the (age-)inclusivity and focus on that vitality I noticed in Tai Chi and Qigong, people in parks coming together to train, and asked here online if we could film a class. That’s how I met Rosanne, who studied Qigong and told me more about the practice: “Taoist practitioners aim to live an eternal life. During practice we move with what comes natural. We find our place amongst all life forms. We find ourselves in the ‘now’ and receive perhaps a glimpse of our eternal self.”

This has been such a wholesome experience ! Thank you to Rosanne for the introduction and thank you class Antoinette, Marlies, Mieke, Emile, Dick, Renate and Hannie for trusting us with filming your training.

‘used to be o lder’ was made with people ! Ralf Pouw and I recorded bass and guitar live in my home studio. We spent the first half of the day talking. Joost Wesseling came by to record drums and ended up playing percussion on the studio floor and doing the vocal production, walking around with a mic in front of the studio speakers. Frank Wienk (Binkbeats) sewed it together doing production and adding synths made from my voice. Kika Sprangers, who also joined us as our first guest on our slow follow evening in April, plays when my voice loses its breath. Sam Jones of Studio Joneski mixed, Maria Triana mastered, as they did with o pen bro ken. The collage for the artwork I made myself and Sonja van Hamel did the editing and lettering. by @luwten
