Reception.
Working within a tight footprint, the angled reception desk creates clear circulation and access for all users. Walnut joinery wraps the room, integrating bookshelves, storage and workspaces, contrasted by the electric blue carpet.
The existing window is framed by the joinery, looking out to the surrounding greenery, while the large window to the left keeps the reception and bookshelves visible from the street, bringing movement and activity to the façade. by @lvwstudio_

Precedent | Geoffrey Bawa House No. 11

A visit to one of the projects I was lucky enough to visit during my recent travels.

Recognised as one of the most influential architects of the twentieth century, Geoffrey Bawa blurred the boundaries between architecture, landscape, light, and everyday life. House No. 11 began as the third townhouse in a row of four. Over the next decade, Bawa gradually acquired the remaining properties, transforming them into the home that exists today.

The house constantly ‘expands and contracts as you move through it.’ Curved rooflines, indoor planting and unexpected moments give the house clear character. Light, courtyards, gardens, and rooms unfold gradually, making it difficult to tell where the interior ends and the outdoors begins. Filled with art, textiles, furniture, and objects collected throughout his travels, every space feels carefully considered yet effortless taken in Geoffrey Bawa's Home Number 11 by @lvwstudio_

Refined material and furniture outcome for the study space.
The electric blue carpet and fabric wall introduce colour while helping soften sound and create a more relaxed environment. Books stored behind the wall press into the fabric, forming a changing installation through use.

Exploring colour, materiality, and atmosphere through a series of palette studies.
These iterations were used to test colour combinations, materials, and accessories. Located alongside Greville Street, the design balances moments of energy and creativity with quieter spaces for reading and focus. Softer finishes and materials were considered to support acoustics and create a more comfortable sensory environment for the user.

Reimagining a heritage façade through accessibility and connection.
The proposal restores the existing façade, repairs damaged elements, and opens the library to the street. A recessed entry and visible bookshelves create a stronger relationship between the public realm and the library.

Site map + Site analysis.
The first drawing maps the site within its immediate context, highlighting the existing building footprint, surrounding vegetation, and its relationship to Greville Street and Prahran Station. Positioned between movement and pause, the site sits within a rare pocket of openness beside one of Prahran’s busiest transport connections.
The second drawing traces pedestrian activity and movement patterns through the area. Greville Street acts as a key daily corridor, carrying commuters, residents, and visitors between retail, transport, and surrounding neighbourhoods. With the station only steps away, the site becomes a natural point of transition and encounter.
These early studies begin to position the library not as a destination alone, but as part of the everyday rhythm of the street.

Project One: Adaptive Reuse
Series Three of Three: Easel
A past university project exploring adaptive reuse.
An existing easel was cut down and reworked with added hinges to transform its structure.
It can now fold and function as both an easel and a table support, extending its use beyond a single purpose.
An example of how reworking structure can give a static object new function. by @lvwstudio_

Project One: Adaptive Reuse
Series Two of Three: Wire Frame
A past university project exploring adaptive reuse through everyday objects.
This discarded wire frame was found with surface rust but an intact form. Through simple intervention - light buffing, and cleaning the frame.
The piece was reinterpreted in two ways: as wall-mounted storage for everyday use, and as a sculptural object styled with foliage.
These outcomes emerged through testing rather than planning, showing how overlooked materials can become adaptable and functional. by @lvwstudio_

Project One: Adaptive Reuse
Series One of Three: Stool Revival
A past university project exploring adaptive reuse through everyday objects.
This stool was found as hard rubbish, still structurally sound but worn through use. Through sanding and staining, and reattaching the seat the damaged layers were removed and the surface restored.
The process and its remnants were documented to show how small interventions can extend the life of an object.
Photographed from street to home, the stool now exists in daily use. by @lvwstudio_
