Azulejo - Stitching Workshop

PROJECT DNA: RESTITCHING MEMORY
A Participatory Art Workshop with Serra Behar

On Sunday, April 26, we gather in Barreiro for a collective, hands-on art experience led by multidisciplinary artist Serra Behar.

We begin with a simple invitation — to mend the pieces — and over time, transform this into a shared process of reconstruction, memory, and meaning. Working with fragments of broken azulejos (tiles), this workshop opens a space where material, history, and human connection intertwine through a unique stitching technique developed by the artist.

No perfection required — your presence and participation in the process are enough.

Serra Behar is a Lisbon-based multidisciplinary artist working across sculpture, installation, and participatory practices. Her work explores cultural memory, transformation, and collective identity through fragmented materials and collaborative processes.

On Saturday, May 2 we’re gathering at Safra for a playful and expressive voice experience led by soprano Burcu Hancı.

We’ll begin with a simple invitation — to explore your voice — and let it unfold into a creative journey of sound, character, and emotion.

Inspired by well-loved songs and iconic characters, this workshop creates a safe and joyful space to experiment, express, and connect through voice.

On the longest night,
at the peak of darkness,
we gathered at the threshold
where light begins its return.

Around fire,
we shared stories,
read poetry,
and touched color.

This was not an event.
It was a pause.
A sacred interval.

Mirrors reflected not only our faces,
but our inner worlds.
Brushes were held not for technique,
but for intuition.
Words, images, and color
met in a single collective memory.

We listened.
We felt.
And together,
we called the light back.

With gratitude for every presence,
