"The most sun I've ever seen in Ballarat"

Classic me, this is a veeeeeeery very late upload of some snaps I took with @maraya_claire from a shoot in Ballarat of all places! There was actual sun! it's not AI folks!

A little bit of a random selection film wise and using a giant red LED lightbar for old Fuji stock was probably a curious choice but otherwise pretty stoked with the results.

It was super nice to finally meet @photo_asc as well seeing @00nicomuller00 in action.

Thanks also go to @kupo92 for the last minute invite & developing my films.

Blind faith & cellophane

It’s always the people that make it. It could be a shoot, a roadtrip, a job, whatever. If you’ve got a good crew there’s little that can go wrong.

There was absolutely nothing groundbreaking about the concept or location for this shoot (my living room) but even in a quintessentially hungover state I somehow managed to have possible the most enjoyable shoot to date.

A huge thank you to the stunning @anaanakemin for having blind faith in my direction and concept on the day and monumental big ups to #somewheremagazine (see reels).

I wish I had his eye for composition and sense of timing in editing. Video is maybe something that’s beyond me.

On a technical note there was much that could have been better in terms of film choice, lighting and the development but I’m not really the mood to linger on past imperfections, personally I think the photos slap.

The last time I shot double exposures I did it deliberately. I wish i could say that this was some artistic experiment in contrasting environments but the reality is sometimes I just fuck up.

Pro Tip - When you’ve finished with your film wind it into the canister so it’s impossible to accidentally re-expose it.

When you do what I did you actually ruin two rolls worth of photos and I did this twice on one trip.
I’ve definitely lost some cools shots in this process but the silver lining is that there are some cool little accidents in here.

These cool little accidents I will unashamedly claim as my own work despite the complete lack of intention in capturing them.

In this short series I will share some of my cool little fuck ups. I hope you find something in them, whatever that may be.

'Ethereal' Pt.1

Between navigating the chaos of Vietnam and being skeptical of the accuracies of google translate I somehow managed to organise a few shoots while in HCMC last month.

Here are a few shots with the beautiful @Anh_kat (thanks for the recommendation @uyen.soymilk) at @fenik_studio in Bình Thạnh.

It's a concept I've been playing with for a while and honestly I'm pretty happy with the results even if they aren't exactly how I imagined them. Such is the creative process I guess.

The images from this shoot were all shot on the very new and very studio suitable Bat Country 400T from @mr.negative_film_store

August afternoons Pt.1

recent session in the home studio with @moonlightfaye @joycie__f and technical guidance and moral support from @kupo92 & @mr.negative_film_store

This is probably only the second or third time i’ve actually used the "home studio" that @josh_g_c helped me put all this together on a bit of a whim earlier this year.

With no real artistic direction or intent sometimes the biggest hurdle for me is simply getting my shit together and actually just picking up the camera for a shoot.

Big thanks to Faye and Joyce for allowing me to try new ideas, experiment with techniques and keeping the craft as honed I deserve. Much love.

Big ups to @mr.negative_film_store for the devs and scans. If you’re not buying your film from him I have concerns for your life choices.

“Viktoria Pt.I”

Fiiiiiinally getting round to posting some work with the very lovely @mofeblumme.

We did this shoot about a month or so back in my living room/makeshift studio and had an absolute blast doing it and just experimenting in the studio again. That being said I probably underexposed almost everything and even dipped my toe back into the digital realm again.

I think i almost prefer studio shoots to street or travel photography. Whilst you can take your time with the composition of any shot I feel like learning how to manipulate lighting is a whole kettle of fish i’m yet to fully engross myself in...but hey I'm here for it.

Big ups to @silverhalidestudios for fixing my fuckups in dev.

If you’re interested in Japanese point and shoot cameras from the 80s and want the japanesest pointiest shootiest of an 80s brick then look no further than the Minolta AF-S

Is sharp. Is brick. Is point. Is shoot.

Such vintage.

However much of a vibe, it is old. The seals wear and the integrity of the unit will eventually fail. As has occurred heretofore, there’s more than a vibes worth of light leaking on the left side of these frames but what do?

If you can learn to forgive a light-tight box fucking up it’s one and only job then honestly, there's probably nothing in life can break you.

"Mũi Né Pt. I"

This will likely be the first of a continued Vietnamese insta-spamming assault on the senses and so I apologise in advance.

If a "spirit country" were to be a thing, then Vietnam would be mine. It’s a beautiful as it’s people are friendly and it’s vibrant, young and thriving.

It’s streets are relentless waves of chaotic near-death experiences and yet travelling on them somehow manages to nurture a sort of therapeutic calm in me.

I assumed, given Mũi Né is a relatively small coastal town that it might be a reprive from the chaos of Ho Chi Minh but my host; @nguyenthanh191 was determined to prove me wrong.

Andy; a stranger who I now gladly call a friend, welcomed me along with a mutual friend into his home that is perhaps more accurately described as a nightclub than a hostel.

The chaos continued in the shape of a three day beach club bender. Frequented by patrons with a good decade more enthusiasm for such antics than I, I persisted non-the-less, determined not to offend, I did what any good guest would do and embibed on all that was offered.

These are some of photos I took in the mornings after, searching for solace and sobriety.

On a technical note, I shot these with Fujifilm F64d bulk rolled some some shady character I found on vietnamese marketplace. Long since out of production I assume its probably been expired for at least 10 years.

It remains though, a rare gem. One of the only warm toned fuji stocks ever I have combed the Internet looking to re-up on my dwindling supply. If you see some. Get some. It's not coming back.
