For this ongoing project I (Cat) ask the sitter, in this case fabulous artist Alex @lxcreatesxi to think about their art practice or artwork while they pose. Alex sent me some brilliant shots of her contemplating her art, and I believe The Art Gods channeled some of her contemplation into my portrait, as I collaged a dreamscape background composed of turkey tail fungi. I'm told it connected with her deeply 😊 Thank you Alex for getting involved in this project and for taking such beautiful images for me to work from, not to mention trusting me to create something in your image!I'm loving the connection and discovery that this little project is creating ✨💖💕✨ To take part comment 'Count me in' or send me a DM.#artistatwork#portraitart#portraitpainting#portraiture#letmecaptureyou by @lxcreatesxi

Tianaterra, Acrylic paint, acrylic markers, charcoal, and twine on Super Canvas (constructed from 12+repurposed canvas panels).102" x 75.6"Tianaterra is an exploration of a fractal, nesting-doll existence where the absolute macrocosm is identical to the absolute microcosm. Operating on the philosophy that every element of reality is imbued with life, power, and consciousness, this piece reveals a complex cosmic tapestry far more abundant than human sight or intellect can typically comprehend. By stripping away the blinding illusions of the human ego, the canvas unmasks a vast, living ecology; an illustration of the concept that every root, star, creature, and discarded or invisible layer is inextricably connected to, and impacted by, the whole.#ContemporaryTapestry #SurrealLandscape #surrealism #SacredGeometry #numerology #UpcycledArt #CharcoalAndAcrylic by @lxcreatesxi

Moving means confronting the clutter—including a mountain of old canvases that were never going to see the light of day. Instead of letting them collect dust in a basement or giving them up to the thrift shop gods, I decided to make them useful again.Inspired, I hit the local thrift stores to find work by other artists who faced the exact same crossroads. The result --> I’ve cut, arranged, and stitched together 15–20 pieces of discarded art—mine and found—to create one massive Super Canvas.Pieces of the past, sewn into something entirely new. Stay tuned...#UpcycledArt #MixedMediaArt #ProcessVideo #StudioPractice #ThriftFlip #ContemporaryArt #ArtInProcess by @lxcreatesxi

JanusArtist-made clay, wild-harvested grapevine, found wood, vintage hardware, polymerized tung oil, and beeswax.Unlike the rest of the pantheon, he has no Greek counterpart. He is entirely his own—the god of gates, doorways, passages, and endings. Because every action requires a beginning, the very first sacrifice was always given to him. As bifrons, he cannot look into the present; his faces are locked, gazing simultaneously back into the grief of what has been and forward into the stark unknown of what will be. Here, his body is built of the earth itself, woven from wild vines and anchored to a scarred wooden core. But the threshold is not an external gate he stands in front of; the threshold is him. The heavy, vintage lock is not worn as armor - it is embedded deeply within his woven abdomen. It is his core. The skeleton key tethered to his hand is the tool required to open the self. The obstacles, the locked doors, and the thresholds we must cross to move from our past into our future are rarely external forces. They are internal barriers. We are the gods we revere. The divine power to grant passage, to end one era and begin another, does not sit in the sky. It is woven into our own anatomy. We carry both the lock and the key, and it is up to us to turn it. by @lxcreatesxi
