Our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with the Conkright family tonight after hearing of the passing of Dan, Class of 2009.

Dan was a key member of the Warrior defense from 2006-09 under Coach Brian Anken. He helped the team jump up in the MAC standings, from a 5-8 season in 2006 to an 11-5 mark that included a 9-1 season in 2009. He also set the program record for caused turnovers in a career at 76, a mark that stood for 15 seasons. He is still sixth in school history with 233 career groundballs.

After graduating Lycoming, the Chester Springs, Pa., native became a project manager with Wirth & Company on Long Island, where he resided with wife, Kate.

Our hearts are shattered with the news of Mark Barnes '01's passing yesterday.

Mark arrived at Lycoming College in 1997, just a few months after Gene Peluso had guided the program through its first season as a varsity program. One year later, Mark was the catalyst that helped Lycoming reach its first MAC Championship final. That was the first of three times that he earned All-American honors.

We could talk about his statistics that are frankly unbelievable if we all hadn't seen it with our own eyes. He was a longstick midfielder. He won 733 faceoffs in his career. He averaged 10 groundballs a game. Both of those are still school records. And as a longstick midfielder, he had 47 goals and 38 assists. He was a difference-maker, a sparkplug, a three-time captain to a program that was 38-22 (.633) during his four years and finished in the top two slots in the league his last three years.

He was the 2000 MAC Player of the Year (as a longstick midfielder), inducted into the Halls of Fame at Corning East and Lycoming College and in 2021, he became just the second lacrosse player to earn induction into the Middle Atlantic Conference Hall of Fame.

"His teammates loved him," Peluso said at the time. "They knew who the alpha dog was. We had some guys on offense who could score, but there was no doubt who our leader was. How he went, we went."

Our hearts are with Jacob, Justin and Kallie and all of his family members and friends. Mark was truly one-of-a-kind and his mark will be felt on Lycoming Lacrosse forever.
