I’ve honestly always preferred performing for an audience over anything else. It sounds woo-woo (because it is), but there is energy that can only exist on stage with lights, live musicians, and filled seats. Something something the power of ✨live theatre✨

The majority of the rest of my career is going to consist of filming performances from small, empty rooms with little to no time to prepare the material or even read the musical’s libretto. The musician and editor in me feels like the camera is an opportunity to be pickier about what I’m showcasing. This doesn’t work in any medium; it’s the reason I haven’t released my original music or started creating content again. Being overly harsh on myself in the past has led me to give up in so many ways: artistically, academically, personally, etc. Embarrassment and fear are paralyzing (duh)

The next steps in my journey are going to be some of the hardest I’ve taken, and I have taken some vERY STRENUOUS STEPS. Releasing myself from anxiety and the need to perfect my art is going to be painful, but it’s the only way to get anything done.

The first step for me has been letting my inner child out again. Performing for myself in my bedroom was my favorite activity as a kid. I would make movies and write music and stories that I wasn’t necessarily proud of, but excited about. I’m trying to have that kind of fun again in my self tapes and every other area of my life.

Anyway, I’m excited about the work I did over showcase, and I wanted to show y’all the difference between my work in a sound studio with a cut I learned the week before VS my work when I’m sick as a dog doing my best for the pillars of NYC’s entertainment industry. Feel free to comment or DM me about your own experiences accepting your artistry and learning to enjoy creating again.
