working with children confronts me with a way of seeing the world that I, and most of us, have forgotten. I can’t explain it in words, only feel it, as they move through life open and aimless, trusting the world enough to believe in magic. watching them, I feel how far I’ve drifted from that trust, from that clarity I no longer know how to hold.nature seems to know how to hold that space for them. In fields, forests, and changing light, their magic feels protected, as if the world itself is willing to meet them in their openness. watching them there, I feel steadied, reminded that this way of seeing still exists, still breathes. I’m deeply grateful to witness it, to be allowed near something so tender and alive. by @lydiahabets

over the years I’ve been trying to teach kids the practices of mindfulness via yoga, meditation, reiki or massaging✨the teachings seemed difficult to bring in to a language for children, but appeared to be easy since children just want to DO it, they just want to embody any form of practice that you give themIf I tell them to try to act like the wind, they will probably actually feel like the windthey just want to believe in the MAGIC of life and that’s exactly what these practices are liketo empty ourselves fully from what is stuck, so new ideas, energy, choices and actions can flow through uswhen I collected this whole deck of pictures, I felt love for all themI wish that all of these individuals can grow up with the skill of REGULATING their nervous systemwhich is in my opinion, one of the most important skills to have, to be able to handle ANY crisis that will arise🙏#holisticchildcare #natureconnection #childcare #holisticteacher #amsterdam #waldorf #kinderenvanamsterdam by @lydiahabets

🥸Thank god my expertise is to connect children back to their nature. Education has become a framework for transferring information from one person to another. But that’s not what the word originally pointed to. Educare; and its root educere, means to draw out. As if the knowledge, the curiosity, the relationship, is already there, waiting to be woken up.That’s why Jon Young speaks about the difference between education modelling and connection mentoring.Education modelling says: I have the knowledge, let me give it to you.Connection mentoring asks: What do you notice? What are you curious about? It draws learning out through play, storytelling, observation, wonder, and direct experience. Apply this to my work field in nature, I can see how precious and creative this job is. Children really need more adults who trust the relationship that can grow between them and the natural world. They just need time, and deep trust to explore. And not just me, or the parents who should foster this connection/ mentor them.. everyone who the child is in contact with. We stole childhood. We paved it over, filled it with traffic, screens, fear, rules. Then we called it progress. It’s such a sad story. Culture of progress has made us think that sterility makes us a good parent/caretaker…It’s their BIRTHRIGHT to be in nature. Every child deserves dirt under their nails. Scraped knees. Nature is screaming for our attention. I think we’ve lost our sensitivity in our senses. When we don’t know how to feel, smell, hear, see how her beauty is here to show us what life is about, we’ve lost the plot. We’ve allready lost.
