Calling all animators! We are looking for an animator to work with us on a short (2–3 minute) animation about Mary Anning, for use on the interactive screens in our Geology Gallery. The film will briefly cover Mary's 5 big discoveries and will also feature the new Mary Anning letter we acquired earlier this year, a rare glimpse into the life of Lyme Regis' most famous fossil hunter. If you're interested, please email learning@lymeregismuseum.co.uk with examples of your previous work. The application window will stay open until we find an animator who can reflect our vision. Please share with any animators or illustrators you know! #animation #animator #callforartists #maryanning #lymeregismuseum #lymeregis #museums #jurassiccoast #dorset #creativejobs by @lymemuseum
Coming up later this week! Join geographer, geologist and Lyme Regis Museum Trustee Jim Thomas on Thursday 5th November for an illustrated talk exploring the fascinating story of The Cobb over the last 100 years. Following on from his hugely popular Part 1 talk earlier this year, Jim will explore how The Cobb has evolved, including its structure, activities and people, as well as its use, management and changing features. He'll also look at ideas and proposals for its future. #thecobb #maritimehistory #sea #shipping #port #boats #lymeregis #jurassiccoast #dorset 📅 Thursday 5th November ⏰ 2.30pm 📍 Woodmead Hall, Lyme Regis 🎟️ Members £3 | Visitors £5 by @lymemuseum

What a brilliant discovery this week from Jack and Paul Marriott, who joined one of our guided fossil walks and came away with an ichthyosaur vertebra AND four beautifully articulated ichthyosaur vertebrae! This is exactly why autumn and winter are such exciting times to fossil hunt on the Jurassic Coast. When the storms roll in and the waves get to work on the cliffs and beaches, fresh fossils are revealed and finds like Jack and Paul’s are proof of just what’s waiting out there! Feeling inspired? We still have a few places available on our guided fossil walk this Saturday - join one of our expert guides and see what the sea has left waiting for you! 👉 Book your place via the link in bio. #fossilwalks #palaeontology #science #geology #fossils #jurassiccoast #lymeregis #museums #dorset by @lymemuseum
Writer and performer @blackvenwriter has been delving into the ghost stories, legends and maritime myths of Lyme Regis as part of her residency at the Museum - and in her first blog post she shares what she has discovered so far. She also reflects on the brilliant 'Legends of Lyme' writing workshop she led here at the Museum, where participants explored the maritime archives and objects in our collection and began finding their own way into Lyme’s remarkable past. “Once you create a legend from the past, it is alive, talks through generations.” Read the full blog at the link below: https://www.lymeregismuseum.co.uk/legends-of-lyme-part-1-sarah-acton #tothesea #residency #art #workshops #writing #maritime #townhistory #museums #dorset #lymeregis by @lymemuseum
