@chinatownphotoalbum goes to print! 💌 about a year ago, @hannahmiao came to me with this idea of creating a digital archive collecting family photos/stories connected to manhattan's chinatown. taking notes from @bedstuyforever and @nuevayorkinos, CPA portrays chinatown's history through the eyes of its people: the sacred spaces, the visceral memories, the faces that make chinatown chinatown for them. over the year, we've hosted photo archiving workshops across chinatown and now we're publishing a year's worth of family photos/stories in this zine!

in building this ever growing archive, we've met a lot of amazing people and you'll get to meet them too: bonita who writes about meeting artists like kwok mang ho and ai weiwei in a 1980s/90s chinatown; wandy who's raising her two sons in the chinatown she's grown up in; ahikara whose family history goes back to his great-grandfather's's restaurant "China Lane" on mott st (FOUR generations in the same neighborhood); jeanie, a longtime organizer with the most iconic photo of corky lee (some of the most fun parts of this project has been watching our connections grow into these meaningful relationships....jeanie now texts/calls me every few months to reread my birthchart and tell me something new about myself) thank you thank you thank you...

pick up a (free!) zine at our launch party this friday april 26 6-8pm @yuandmebooks. we have 500 copies in english and chinese and if you can't make it, there'll be free copies at community centers like the seward public library, AAFE and more. come say hi (oh, and hannah and i are making cookies) by @lynnfromtx

the little things we do as we watch the sun set: pass around the plate, top off each other's wine glasses, crane our necks to catch the last spark of a firework

learning how, as cheyenne worded it, one of the most special parts about spending time with each other and growing our friendships is having the space to show up as you are / where you are, that we'll always "be grateful that you chose to come" .... presence is a choice i will make everytime and i'm glad you came i'm glad you came i'm glad you came !!!!
