ARC Review. Vengefully Mayched by Audrey Goldberg Ruoff was a fun cozy fall read. Priscilla Hart is a witch who is chaos incarnate and starts the book off by leaving her fiancé at the altar (really, a flaming chuppah.) She teams up with Agatha Vanderbilt Voisin, the uptight president of the North American Council of Witches in a fake dating situationship while they work together to solve a mystery that has been unfairly blamed on Priscilla.

I want my fall reads to be filled with amiable witches (and demons) having low stakes adventures and this book absolutely fits the bill. There’s a zany uncle, a dashing male secretary, and a complicated governance structure for witchkind that I never really fully grasped. Even better, the spice is pretty spicy but serves the plot (and the growing feelings between the main characters.) This is book 2 in a series of interconnected standalone but I did not read book 1 and felt like I did not need the background to understand what was happening.

ARC Review. Once, Again, Always by Amanda Gayle is absolute perfection. It’s everything I want in a romance. There’s a slow burn, yearning MMC, chaotic found family, and a slowly unfolding story with unexpected twists.

Molly Graham-Bishop wakes up one day with no memory of her last six years, only remembering her husband as the pretentious little snot he was in boarding school. However, we get to meet the new and improved Aster Bishop. Aster. Sir. You are setting some very high standards. You learn, you apologize, you flash a little sexy forearm to your wife. Once, Again, Always truly is a beautiful story of two people who have to learn to trust again when one of them can’t remember all the reasons she had to trust in the first place. It’s a journey and I can’t recommend it enough.

Flatlay Friday! Today I picked some historical romances including the new JQ Editions. I love hist rom (esp regency) and I’m sad the mass market paperbacks are going away because a lot of my early reading was my mom’s mass market books that I’d sneak.

ARC Review. Bound by the Scarred Moon follows our heroine, Elara, as she emerges from battle in the war between shifters and mages with a shifter bite. As a trainee mage, shifters are Elara’s enemy, but she begins to see visions of the shifter who bit her, and is pursued by other shifters and the mage college’s internal affairs equivalent.

BBTSM is billed Why Choose and multi POV, however it is a book 1 so there is lots of world building and introducing various characters. We don’t really get to the RH yet. In fact, it took about 85% to get to any smut because it builds fairly slowly. I think the slow build made it harder for me to get into the story, but I have high hopes now that we know all of the players and the scene is set for book 2.

ARC Review. I was gripped by Blood of Truth and Traitors from start to finish. Some Romantasy series have a serious slump in the middle where we have to wade through world building to get to the good stuff, but with BOTAT the action and intensity is in high gear throughout even though it is book 3 in the Hirathean Path series.

Rose finally makes it to Issen lands to find out more about her ice powers, only to find a decidedly mixed reaction to her presence (and that of Kyor, her lover who has been waging war against the Issen on his daddy’s orders.) As she struggles to learn (and pass through another gauntlet known as the Veil), she faces internal and external threats. Rose sustains some devastating losses but also learns more about the coming Great Conflict and her role in it. Kyor and Rose have to grapple with who they are and want to be toward one another in the middle of that conflict that could see them on opposing sides.

Books that caused me emotional damage… Character deaths and self sacrifice get me right in the feels every time. Whether it’s Lehabah or Liam, I still get teary thinking about these books.
