one week since the hardest goodbye.

last week i met heartbreak and welcomed grief into my home once again. life can be so cruel and uncalled for, days go by with or without you and nights are heavy with the burden of a promised tomorrow. grief doesn't go away or shrink, but continues to grow with you. i've learned a lot sitting with myself in silence this past week — that the world continues to go on... that my brain and emotions may be operating at 1% but life demands 100%. that grief is a silent and isolating journey.

i also learned, however, that earth has no sorrow that heaven can't heal. i'm reminded that my immense grief has given me the privilege to love you and to be loved by you, dad. in learning to say goodbye, ive also learned to hold on to what matters. as long as there's grief, i will endure it because it means you were here and it mattered. if grief is what i get for loving deeply, then i know i've loved you well. grief is what i have left of you, so i'll hold onto it. i guess grief is just a garden where my love for you continues to grow. i love and miss you so much dad.
