I’ve been through all the stages of grief except for acceptance.
I remember when I saw the headlights coming at me, and hearing my brakes screech, and smelling them burn, I thought “this can’t be happening. Are we really about to crash?” I got flashbacks from a car accident 7 years ago where I was the passenger. Something I never really healed from either.

Then i remember the pain. Me entire body felt like it was contracting into one big cramp. The door was crushed inwards, and hit my ribs. And I couldn’t get out. I rolled down the window, but I physically couldn’t move myself out through the window becuase of the pain, and my whole left side couldn’t move from the “cramp”. I remember sitting there screaming for first responders, and shining my flashlight out the window. And no one came. They were worried about the other car. Yknow, the one who blew the red light in the first place, got out of their car fine was walking around and talking, and had no injuries? Yeah they were more worried about them.

I was scared, in pain, in shock, and alone. I called 911 and the dispatcher was amazing (thank god) but he couldn’t stay on the line with me. I tried to call my family, but no one picked up. I even called family members that lived out of the state. I was alone, crying, trapped in my car until another group of first responders arrived on scene.

I was then taken to the hospital by ambulance, fighting the urge to faint (shoutout to POTS). I think this is where I felt denial. I kept cracking jokes with everyone, and was acting pretty bubbly for the most part. And then reality set in 🙃

We got home a few hours later after running a couple of tests and being cleared by the doctor. That’s when the depression set in. The feeling of hopelessness, the emptiness, the thought that I will never be able to recover from this. Realizing the tears in both my shoulders hurt worse than what they did when I first injured them. Realizing there is new pain all over my body, that still hasn’t gone away 2 months later. Struggling with my motor function and vision due to a possible concussion. But also realizing how much worse it could’ve been. CONTINUED IN COMMENTS 👇🏼 by @lynx_behavior
