I'm not the only one with a much-adored @charlottewoodwriter collection in my bookcase. Last night's Body of Works conversation with Charlotte and @jaclyncrupi at @fed.square reminded me of just how deeply regarded Charlotte's work is.

While Melbourne may be a little preoccupied with a big footie game, we were there to celebrate the long game of Charlotte Wood's breathtaking books and her process of writing, noticing and nourishing her creative process.

Having just completed an intensive writing fellowship focus, I resonated with Charlotte's reflections that she "pays attention to the glimmers. Nurturing that capacity to pay detailed attention requires noticing. That attention needs to be accurate as you cultivate that receptive state."

Guided beautifully by @jaclyncrupi the conversation turned to reversing doubt, breakthroughs in trusting the process, her incredible Stella and Booker Prize experiences, writing with rage and gut fury, finding threads of relevance and the defence of writing dreams in fiction.

Self-deprecating, reflective and generous, Charlotte "cultivates embarrassed tenderness" towards her work." Last night reinforced why she's so admired, referencing the support that surrounds her, authors and books she's impacted by (and we all must read) and how writing success is both slippery and provisional.

How wonderful to spend time listening to one of our literary greats reflecting on her years of writing and the feel nourishment she seeks through writing. Melbourne came out in force to lean into this conversation.

As @jaclyncrupi reflected ... given Charlotte's immense success, Melbourne should really be honouring her with a public holiday and a parade. A civic celebration for a celebrated author ... wouldn't that be a perfect world?

Here's to gathering the storytellers too. Great to catch up @irma.gold @rijncollins @mariontaffe_writer @lynyeowart @gailholmesauthor @rochelle_rochelle @charlotte.lucy.guest @karen__comer by @lynyeowart

So delighted to be at @angelaokeeffewriter ‘s Melbourne launch of Phantom Days. If you haven’t read her two previous stunners (Night Blue and The Sitter), I’m recommending all three of them - lyrical, madly original, beautiful. by @lynyeowart

🌟 Feuding & Fatal Families 🌟
Families may be related by blood – but they can also involve blood-letting, sometimes with fatal consequences. It’s no coincidence that Christmas Day and Boxing Day see huge spikes in family violence. Three Victorian authors – Tanya Scott, Fiona Lowe, and Kirstyn McDermott – dissect the institution of the family and its criminal complexity in different ways. They will reveal all to fellow author Lyn Yeowart.
This will be a great night! 😊

I had a wonderful Sunday afternoon at Avid Reader celebrating Lyn Yeowart’s new novel, The Hollow Girl. Avid’s Fiona Stager asked insightful questions, as did the audience (I’m looking at you, Kylie!) and Lyn discussed her writing process and historical inspirations. It was so great to meet Lyn and lovely as always to catch up with fellow crime writers. I’m now even more keen to get stuck into The Hollow Girl. 💕
