Meet the épée!

Ever wondered what makes an épée fencing blade special? Here are the basics!

The guard: The large, round bell-shaped disc protects your hand.

The blade: A long, flexible steel blade designed for precision, timing and control.

The socket: The wire connects to a socket at the end of the grip, linking the blade to the scoring system.

The blade wire: A thin electrical wire runs along the centre of the blade, connecting the tip to the scoring circuit.

The tip: The spring-loaded tip registers a touch when pressed with sufficient force, helping the scoring machine award a point.

In épée, your whole body is a valid target, from head to toe! Timing, precision and strategy are key.

And remember: you don’t have to be the strongest, tallest or fastest to get started. Just bring your curiosity, courage and willingness to learn!
