Sitting in Richmond Airport waiting for my flight back to Albany via a 2 hour layover in LaGuardia. Spent the last four days with @ehrmannjett. She continues to surprise her doctors with her strength and resilience. She’s been off of the ventilator for more than 3 days - breathing on her own. Her trach tube is still in place and sometimes she has a speaking cap on it, but her voice is still a bit soft and raspy.
On thursday they replaced the some of the temporary graft material on her arms- pieces that hadn’t adhered - with new grafts. Her infections seem to be gone and, if all goes well, on Monday they’ll take the temp grafts off and apply BMT. Here’s an explanation of what that is:
BTM (Biodegradable Temporizing Matrix) is a synthetic dermal scaffold used to reconstruct complex or deep burn wounds. It features a polyurethane matrix that integrates with the body to form new tissue, temporarily sealed by a non-biodegradable membrane.
The BTM stays on for 3 weeks and following that, they’ll be able to start on her permanent skin grafts. Every day she takes another step towards recovery. I continue to be in awe of her grace and strength as she navigates this difficult journey. by @lziskind

Currently watching Project Hail Mary (already read the book) and realized Astrophage, the life form that vampirishly kills stars and planets by absorbing nearly all wavelengths of electromagnetic radiation (including visible light, UV, and gamma rays) directly from the surfaces of stars, is the perfect name for our current oligarchs. They’re just another kind of opportunistic vampire that’s killing the country, the planet, and all its inhabitants. by @lziskind

7/10/26 update on @ehrmannjett (my sister Gloria Jett).
First of all, these are all of the fluids and drugs flowing in and out if her, which includes platelets in and dialysis. However, despite the crowd of medical equipment, she continues to fight and improve. she had surgery on both her hands this morning to remove dead tissue and apply temporary grafts. Not only did she do really well during the surgery, but they discovered that all the tissue on all her fingertips is viable and there is no amputation necessary. I am over the moon at this news. She’s a warrior and she’s the bravest person I know. #teamgloriamuaythai by @lziskind

Hey @hilton, I checked into this room at The Hampton Inn in downtown Richmond VA on Monday, 6/22. I’m here to be with my sister who’s in the hospital after suffering serious burns in a house fire. I spend all day at the hospital with her and I come back to the hotel in the evening, expecting the minimum in Hotel service, which includes Airconditioning & housekeeping. Monday night my room was quite warm and when I went down to breakfast on Tuesday, I discovered the entire Hotel had lost Airconditioning. I was told it would be fixed that evening. It was not. I also discovered that housekeeping had not been in my room, but was told they only come every other day. Fine. I was told I could take one of the fans from the lobby to my room. I did and it helped. Wed. morning I was told my Airconditioning would be fixed and housekeeping would make my bed & give me new towels. I came back Wednesday night. There was no Airconditioning & housekeeping had not come. This morning, I’ll politely explain to the woman at the front desk that I needed the Airconditioning checked & needed housekeeping to come clean the bathroom and bring new towels. I just got back from 7 hours in the hospital only to find no Airconditioning and housekeeping had not come to do anything. This is completely unacceptable.
I have asked to be changed to a different room, but have not heard back from the front desk.
Dear Hilton management, I will tell you now I would rather sleep on the street than pay another Hilton property one dime for this kind of unacceptable service. To say I’m disappointed is an understatement. I’m exhausted and furious. This is the best you can do, shame on you.

If the world hadn’t fallen off of its axis and entered the Twilight Zone in 2016 we’d be looking at a photo of a current and future president, followed by a photo of three former presidents. “Screwed the pooch” doesn’t begin to cover the travesty/tragedy of it all. FT. by @lziskind
