Reasons to love A Stairway to the Stars, available now on Kindle! Set in the early ‘90s, it’s an epic, no-spice ya romantasy that feels like a cross between Stranger Things and The Lord of the Rings, takes place in far-off space, and features a fairy-tale plot that reverses the gender stereotypes of stories like Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty, and Snow White. Visit my website (link in bio) and drop me a line if you’re interested in being an early epub reviewer, or a physical ARC reviewer in Q1 of 2027!

I do! My new epic space fantasy novel, A Stairway to the Stars, is inspired by the classics, and features a wise, four-legged sidekick, a reluctant teen-girl hero, and a thrilling journey across the dystopian kingdom of Apokalon, on a wild and dangerous planet in a galaxy not so far away… Available now on Kindle Unlimited!

Who’s ready for a clean, classic ya space fantasy that features cosmic portals to distant planets, magical family secrets, a wise, four-legged sidekick named Whammy, and a reluctant girl hero, Mariana, on the undercover adventure of a lifetime? Throw in an exiled prince, a forbidden romance, an evil emperor, and we’ve got a page-turner! A Stairway to the Stars is perfect for ages 11-17 and is available now on Kindle.

When free speech is suppressed, fantasy and allegory become especially important means of telling the truth about tyranny and oppression.

I’m an avid sailor, and couldn’t help but incorporate seafaring adventures with ghostly sailors, a schooner made of starlight, and vicious sea monsters into my epic YA romantasy, A Stairway to the Stars! Check it out on Kindle today.

Just devoured Incidents Around the House by Josh Malerman in advance of the theater release of Other Mommy on Oct 9! I love the spare, screenplay-like format, in which dialogue is indented and narrative description is left-justified. The story is told entirely from the perspective of Bela, a lonely little girl visited nightly - and sometimes even in daylight - by a frightening entity known as Other Mommy whom she accepts at face value, and even considers to be a friend…

I love doppelgänger horror, and incorporated elements of it into my own YA fantasy, A Stairway to the Stars. In chapter 14, “The Phantom Farmhouse,” the main character, Mariana, is homesick and wandering across a dangerous, distant planet. She ascends a golden staircase that appears to be a wormhole back to her farmhouse on Earth, where her mom and dad warmly welcome her, but something is amiss…

⠀⠀⠀⠀”Mariana!”
⠀⠀⠀⠀ There was no time to think. I ran toward Dad, playing the part of a happy kid welcoming my father home. It was easy. It all seemed so natural. He smelled of fresh laundry and aftershave.
⠀⠀⠀⠀ “Dad!”
⠀⠀⠀⠀ I snuggled against him, angling my head to glimpse the Dragonsheart pendant inside my t-shirt. It radiated a bright, blood red. My dad was not my dad. He was a shape-shifter. Did it know that I knew?
⠀⠀⠀⠀ “Sit with me on the sofa,” the shape-shifter said, sinking into the worn chesterfield and patting the cushion beside it. “Tell me about your day!”

Is anyone else excited to watch Other Mommy in theaters this weekend? What are your favorite doppelgänger horror stories and movies?

I’m excited to announce that the first five-star review of A Stairway to the Stars by an industry professional is in…and here are the opening lines:

“I started reading this book right at the beginning of my holiday, and instead of actively enjoying the beautiful weather, I found myself completely immersed in this wonderful story…”

More details to come…
