‘Studies in Anatomy’ brings together independently developed garments unified by a focus on the body as structure. Anatomy is approached as a framework, drawing details from the skeletal and integumentary systems to examine what supports the body and what contains it. The iris functions as a window into the skeletal soul, a point where surface and interior meet.

Textile development drives the work. Surfaces are built through distressing, pin-tucking, and pleating, allowing texture to construct form rather than decorate it. Ideas of decay and exposure operate as moments of transformation, where breakdown becomes a method of renewal.

Though not conceived as a formal collection, the works align through shared material language and process. Together, they function as studies in how the body can be abstracted, reassembled, and held through textile and silhouette.

Look titles from left to right: Living Through Decay, Calcifica, Iris of the Skeletal Soul.

BERKSHIRE RED - curtains designed and commissioned for the @theatterburyflat featured in London Design Festival 2026. In collaboration with Giselle Grant (@gg.archiv) and Zöe Tynan-Campbell (@zolaroid).

Giselle Grant’s ‘Berkshire Red’ reimagines brick within the domestic interior, using the material to explore local identity and circularity. By transforming something typically heavy and structural into something soft, fluid, and sheer, the concept brings traces of London’s architectural history into everyday domestic life. The curtain invites guests to engage with the architecture through touch and everyday use while revealing the building’s material history.

Thank you to Giselle for inviting me to be part of this project and giving me the opportunity to explore brick as an unexpected source of natural dye.

BERKSHIRE RED - samples

Using crushed Victorian brick as pigment, I developed and tested a natural dye process across linen, muslin, and chiffon. Created in collaboration with Giselle Grant for Berkshire Red, the experiments explored how brick could shift from a heavy architectural material into something soft, fluid, and embedded with traces of London’s built environment.

the most unexpected outcomes begin when you accept that failure is a part of the process. many mistakes were made along the way, though you have to start somewhere! keep learning, keep experimenting, and allow contaminations to teach you without letting it define where you stop.

mycelium is specifically featured here. it’s the root-like network of fungi that grows by spreading fine threads called hyphae. when introduced to fabric, those threads can grow across and into the fibers, gradually binding with the textile and creating a living, evolving material surface. 🍄

Join us for two events exploring natural colour, living materials and the future of fashion, led by designer and researcher Dalia Scolnick. (@m3ek.studio)

Dalia’s practice brings together biodesign, material experimentation and fashion, exploring how biological processes and natural resources can shape more responsible ways of designing.

🧬 Biology as the Designer: The Future of Fashion Through Biodesign

Tuesday 4 August | 6:30–7:30 PM

Discover how biodesign and living materials are transforming fashion and opening up new possibilities for sustainable material innovation.

🌿 Natural Dyes: Colour Through Nature

Tuesday 11 August | 6:30–8:30 PM

Learn the fundamentals of natural dyeing, from creating dye baths to experimenting with immersion dyeing, shibori and folding. You’ll also explore how mordants and modifiers can shift and influence colour.

Together, the talk and workshop offer an introduction to the ideas behind biodesign, followed by the chance to explore natural colour through hands-on experimentation.

NATURAL DYES

Using pigments derived from plants, flowers, and wood, this work explored natural dyeing through a series of material experiments. Through over-dyeing and testing different fibers, mordants, and modifiers, each pigment produced its own range of tones and surface qualities. Metals were used to alter and deepen colors, often revealing unexpected shifts across the same dye bath.

The project later expanded through a collaboration with furniture designer Giselle Grant, where we experimented with pigments made from crushed Victorian brick. By turning fragments of England’s architectural landscape into dye, the work considered how color can carry traces of the environments from which it is sourced.

THE IRIS SUTURES ITSELF

Created for Fashion Bio-Materials at Central Saint Martins, Spring ‘26.

This project explored the iris as a living system of repair, where fracture, healing, and regeneration become a process of self-reconstruction. Through bacterial cellulose, plant roots, bio-plastics, bio-yarns, and natural dyes, I investigated how materials can learn from nature’s own methods of growth and recovery.

Working with biomaterials taught me that failure is not something to avoid, but something to embrace. Materials grow unpredictably, react in unexpected ways, and rarely follow the original plan. Rather than forcing control, I learned to work alongside the process, allowing experimentation, adaptation, and uncertainty to shape the final outcome. In bio-design, some of the most meaningful discoveries emerge from outcomes you never intended.

The iris no longer simply sees. It heals.
