Here I am at the doctor for a checkup and some repair work on worn front suspension components. After all, I’m not a young buck anymore and stuff just wears out over time.⁣
⁣
It’s always good to find a local doctor I can trust who appreciates and knows how to work specifically on us old timer BMWs to keep me healthy! Thankfully I have found two locally here in the Bay Area that fit that description. This one is at a place called Bavarian Professionals (@bavarianprofessionals) in Berkeley, CA. This one was a lucky shot from when the fluorescent lighting of the garage workbench and the dark of the night from the open garage door behind me came together for a really cool photograph. ⁣

This is the first picture of me after my driver finished my projector retrofit project a few years ago now. Or as I like to call it - my eyeball surgery. 😆 ⁣

Here he replaced my plastic lens US-spec reflector headlamp hosings with proper glass lens Euro-spec Bosch projector headlamp housings. Then he removed the halogen projector and carefully retrofitted in a HID projector (Morimoto Mini D2S 4.0). He finished the project with some OEM Hella Gen3 ballasts and even utilized the inner lenses from an E38 headlight housings instead of the inner lens from the E36 since they have the hole cut out so the emitted light passes through as crisp and focused as possible. This also adds a bit of a unique but subtle look for me specifically!⁣

It all comes together for a very unique OEM+ appearance for me as well as some of the best nighttime lighting performance on the road! taken in Boulder, Colorado by @m3fourme

New daily driver - 2026 Prius PHEV

This pulls the white M3 out of daily driver status and puts it in “weekend fun car” status.

Doing the math on miles driven and gasoline used, the net additional cost of the Prius ended up being fairly negligible. Additional perks for daily use were things like the adaptive cruise control, modern safety features, doesn’t require premium fuel, uses much less fuel, and simply having that new car reliability.

New center air vent for the M3

The old one was worn out from abuse from the previous owner and had been a long overdue fix. The horizontal slider was worn out with the paint scraped off and the left/right control was broken. My driver replaced it with a used one from that he pulled from the yard that was in much better shape.

USB charging port for E38 from @rendition.design. USB A and USB C.

I was hesitant to install this as I like the look of the OEM cigarette lighter and didn’t want to change it, but this Rendition Design port is a pretty great design that gave me the ability to keep my phone fully charged on a long drive while still keeping a clean, OEM appearance. The added functionality ended up being especially valuable on the a recent roadtrip to Yosemite. by @m3fourme
